CAE system "JSCAST" for casting process has been developed by the project of Japan Small and Medium Enterprise Corporation. The project has been practiced by the private. the public, and universities. Its aim is the popularization of CAE system "JSCAST" to small and medium companies. The system can be easily operated by casting designers, and also has the merit of fluidity and solidification simulation technology. In this paper, the outline of the system and the application are reported.

The present study has attempted to simulate the growth of a fish-eye crack in the very high cycle fatigue of a high strength steel SUJ2 by using 3D FEM. A half model of a round-bar type cantilever rotating bending fatigue test specimen was used in the present FEM simulation. A facet-like region around a non-metallic inclusion, which is often called ODA, or optically dark area, was considered as the incipient crack. The crack size increments along the periphery of the elliptic crack were calculated from the distribution of the stress intensity factor value around the crack and an empirical Paris law of fatigue crack growth behavior in SUJ2. The growth of the crack from the numbers of fatigue cycles N to N+ΔN was done by adding the crack increments during ΔN to the crack shape at N. The resultant final shape of the fish-eye crack showed a good agreement with that observed on the fracture surface of a real specimen.

In this study, a basic model was introduced to predict the biomechanical behaviors of the wood in relation to the composite structure of the wood cell wall and its formation. Based on the newly-introduced model, the origins of tree growth stress, anisotropic shrinkage of the wood due to moisture desorption, and the species-dependency of the elastic modulus along the grain were simulated. Through those simulations, it is expected that the fine structure and internal property of each cell wall constituent can be clarified.

Many researches using the molecular dynamics method have been made recently. About the dislocation which has many relation in plastic deformation of metal, writers analyze using a molecular dynamics method, and perform comparison with the dislocation theory on the basis of continuation physical strength study. It is made to move to the border plane which applied external force to the α-Fe crystal with two or three edge dislocation, and is fixed to it, and the simulation of dislocation pile-up is tried. Moreover, comparison with this result and Eshelby's dislocation pile-up theory is performed.
