This paper describes a brief review of the industry-university cooperative project on scientific research of flexible media transport technology that had been organized by Japan Society for Precision Engineering from 1998.6 to 2002.5 and some typical research results done by academic members. More than twelve academic researchers and forty companies related to flexible media technology joined one or two of the four research working groups : (1) mechanical characteristics of paper and their mathematical formulation, (2) analysis of micro-slip of sheet driven by rubber roller, (3) analysis of interaction between sheet and fluid, and (4) simulation of flexible media transport. Typical results on micro-slip characteristics of rubber roller, evaluation of foil bearing for air-permeable sheet in mixed lubrication regime, flutter threshold and frequency analysis, etc are introduced.
