Through the article reported by the Japan Soc. of Mechanical Engineers magazine, the investigation described in the previous report in order to clarify system and discussion by today was carried out. As the result, the some points which they should do features in until now discussion have been coming out. These matters were points to be considered, when "industry and engineering education" was considered. These result of analysis are reported.

Although it is sometimes in conflict with the aims of the profit seeking enterprises, antitrust law is enforced on the basis to prevent restraints on free trade and commerce. This paper focuses on the issue of price fixing and volume allocation of a certain case among major corporations, as well as technology development collaboration among competitors. Cases are analysed and a specific proposal is made as to what maybe an effective approach and what should be considered in minimizing violation where a number of market influencing enterprises cooperate in sales, and in research and development. Recent signing of a treaty regarding cooperation between the US and Japan on antitrust cooperation will undoubtedly accelerate globalized enforcement to have influence on expanding globalization in marketing.

There's not a regular subject "History of Technology" in the Technical High School. Therefore we tried to take in a regular subject about this. In the first grade, we tried to "History of Vehicle" in the subject "Human and Techology". In the third grade, we tried to "History of Mechanical Technology" in the optional subject. Besides, we tried to introduce records of the visitation about technology. In this paper describes these educational practice.

In 1990, an ancient sacrificed chariots tomb of Qi Dynasty(斉国) in later period of Chun Qiu era about from B.C.7C. to B.C.5C. (春秋後期,前7〜前5世紀), was discovered and excavated at Lin Zi district in Zi Bo city, Shan Dong province(山東省〓博市〓〓地区). Authors surveyed actually them on December, 1996. The sacrificed tomb contains complete appearance of 10 chariots and 32 horses. Moreover, a sacrificed horses tomb in the old castle of Qi dynasty surrounded by broken walls was surveyed.

About sixty educational models of machine mechanisms are preserved at Kyoto University. The models imitate the movements of basic machine mechanisms, and model manipulations via handles enhance students understanding of machine mechanisms. It is made clear from the labels on the models that twenty one of the sixty models were imported from the two German companies in about 1900. One of the companies was in Koeln, and delivered on the domestic outside for demonstration or education, advertising a true copy of the original in the most minute details. Then, between the end of 19th century and the First World War, Germany was a co-leader as well as America in the export and the output of the machine industries.

After a good success in designing the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Isambard Kingdom Brunel(IKB) had been appointed as Engineer of the Bristol Railway formed in Bristol. The plan for constructing a railway between London and Bristol had been proceeded in London and the Great Western Railway company (GWR) had been officially formed in London in 1833. IKB became the Chief Engineer of the GWR. In this report, the author introduce IKB's works in the GWR: Maidenhead brick bridge, Bristol railway station, Box tunnel, Sonning cutting, Royal Albert Bridge, etc. IKB laid the Great Western lines with the broad-gauge truck of seven feet in order to ensure much faster, steadier and more comfortable ride rather than the narrow-gauge.

In this paper, SHINANSHIN which is a initialform of the magnetic compass is reported. SHINANSHIN is the south seeking needle. First this magnetic needle was made by natural magnet. Afterwards, used magnetic needle changed to the magnet which was artifical from natural magnet. These processes are described from the discovery that has the property in which the magnet points to the south. And, the process of the chnge of the south seeking needle to the magnetic compass is also described.

This paper describes the brief history and coupling mechanism of Wilson-type automatic coupler. In Japan, this type of coupler was adopted by some light railways and industrial railways such as in mining plants, and it is presumed that this coupler was invented by John Wilson in England, and manufactured by American company, i.e., National Malleable and Steel Castings, Co. and imported to Japan after the World War II. This coupler is very simple in its structure, only moveable part is key, but it has automatic coupling function just as common automatic coupler, and in Russian National Railway, bigger-sized coupler alike Wilson type is used universally in heavy duty.

For the beginning of Osaka-Kobe railway transportation in 1874, two English-made steam locomotives (Nos.5000,5001) were imported by the Imperial Government Railway of Japan:IGRJ. These were the first tender steam locomotives in Japan, and they were made in 1871 at the Sharp Stewart & Co., Manchester. In 1876, IGRJ Kobe Works remodeled two tender steam locomotives Nos.7010,7011 for freight-train use into Nos.5100,5101 tender locomotives for passenger-carrying use. These were the first remodelling works in Japan by Japanese railway engineers only. It is a pity that these valuable steam locomotives were taken to pieces. In this report, 1)History of these locomotives and their builders, 2) Examination of two different types of valve gear mechanism for Nos.5100,5101 locomotives, are descrived.
