Generally, a bolt axial tension is applied by the torque control method for the bolted flange connection. The torque control method does not allow an accurate control of the bolt axial tension due to the problems related to friction. Another cause is that the axial tensions of bolts often do not become uniform because tightening of bolts causes elastic interaction among bolts, when more than one bolts are used. In order to obtain uniform bolt loads and to prevent accidents, a guideline of the pipe flange tightening was proposed by ASME PPC-1. However, the easier tightening method is desired for more than it. In this study, FEM analyses and correspond experiments were examined, and the authors propose to tighten two bolts simultaneously in the bolted flange connection sequence.

Ultrasonic and rotating bending fatigue tests were carried out for Inconel 718 in order to investigate the effect of elevated temperature on fatigue properties. In ultrasonic, fatigue strength at 500℃ was larger than that at room temperature, and many intergranular facets were observed on the fracture surface at 500℃ in addition to striations and transgranular facets which observed at room temperature. This means that there are two factors which oppose each other to fatigue strength at which elevated temperature.

Fatigue crack growth test under constant amplitude loading was carried out on a grain-oriented 3% silicon iron. The specimen surface around fatigue crack tip was transferred to thin plastic films, and these replica films were observed by means of an atomic force microscope (AFM). Slip deformation around the crack tip at the maximum and minimum loading in one cycle was observed in detail at low growth rate where frequent fatigue crack deflection and branching occurred.

This study investigated the influence of environment on the fatigue properties of Dental Hybrid Composite Resins. The fatigue tests of two kinds of Composite Resins were conducted under three kinds of environments; air, physiological salt solution (0.9% NaCl) and ethanol solution (10mass%). The influence of soaking condition on fatigue properties was also investigated. Testing temperature was selected as 37℃. It was found that there was much influence of environment on both mechanical and fatigue properties; especially the influence of ethanol solution on the fatigue strength was more significant than that under the other environments. This was caused by the degradation of the interfacial strength between filler and matrix.

Materials with the biggest increase in usage of light-weighting cars and trucks aren't aluminium, magnesium or some other alternative metals. Instead, it is the high strength steel sheets, such as extra-low carbon steels, that have shown the most growth in the light-vehicle market. Reducing weight by using thinner high strength steel sheets allows the car companies to meet reduced fuel requirements without compromising the size and safety of the cars as well as the buyers' affordability. Extra-low carbons steels, commonly known as Interstitial Free (IF) steels have been widely used for automobile plates. IF-steels have also been widely used in many kinds of products by press deformation particularly of stamped components in automobile application because of their excellent deep-draw ability and high resistance aging. All specimen have been tested using the plain bending fatigue-testing machine at 30Hz with capacity of 1.96Nm. Successive replica observations are performed to observe the fatigue crack initiation and fatigue crack propagation behavior.

Recentry, as for the solder material, the changeover from eutectic Sn-Pb solder to lead-free solder (Sn-Ag-Cu, Sn-Zn) is proceeded from a view of the environmental preservation. However, the low cycle fatigue characteristic of lead-free solder is not sufficiently examined and the mechanism of failure in devices is unclear yet. In this study, using the electronic device part, low cycle fatigue test for lead-free solder was conducted. Combining with FEM analysis, the relationship between inelastic strain range and low cycle fatigue life was evaluated.

With the miniaturization of an electron device, and high integration, a solder joint is made detailed and the heat fatigue reliability poses an important problem. Moreover, in case a design change of a package is made, grasp of the relation between each design parameter and reliability is demanded. So, in this research, the degree analysis of influence to the reliability of each design parameter was performed using the experimental design for the BGA package. Moreover, the correlation of each design parameter was clarified by using the clustering technique to the obtained result.

Plastic deformation and tensile failure of SiC particle-dispersed aluminum alloy matrix composites were investigated both under dynamic and quasi-static loading conditions. The corresponding unreinforced matrix alloy was also examined. The effects of strain rate on the tensile responses of these composites were determined using the Split Hopkinson bar. The microstructures and fracture surfaces of the specimens of each composite were determined using SEM. The experimental results show that the flow stresses of composites increase with an increase of volume fraction of SiC particle. Microscopic examination revealed tensile failure of the composites is controlled by cracking of reinforcement particles.

In recent years, from the viewpoint of the improvement of environmental performance and collision safety, it is demanded for vehicle structure to be light-weight and to have high rigidity. Then, thin walled structure is used for vehicle structure as a main frame to satisfy these requirements at the same time. The purpose of this study is to investigate the elastic-plastic buckling phenomenon of thin walled rectangular tubes by pure bending. Thin walled rectangular tubes have various configurations of cross section to change the stiffness of side wall. Hence, the influence on deformation property by the difference of the configuration of cross section is discussed experimentally. And the critical buckling stress and the behavior after pre-buckling are cleared by numerical analysis.

In general, a thin plate is employed as a main member of mechanical structure such as vehicle etc. The ultimate load of a thin plate under tensile force is related with the mechanical property, that is tensile strength. However the behavior against compressive load depends on not only the mechanical properties but also the configuration of the structure, because the thin plate occasionally buckles. Hence, in the actual use under the variety of loads, the reinforcement such as a bent portion or additional rib member is usually installed to the thin plate. However structural designers strongly require how to evaluate the effect of the reinforcement and to estimate the effective distance of the reinforcements. In this paper, the critical load on buckling of thin rectangular plate is investigated experimentally and analytically by shearing force under the fixed boundary condition.
