    In order to survey a snow depth distribution in mountainous districts,measurement using an airborne laser scanner was done in the range of about 6.2km2from Nyuto hot spring village to Mt.Eboshidake(Nyutosan)located on the boundary between Iwate Prefecture and Akita Prefecture on February 22,2007and May 22,2007.the altitude,inclination and direction of the ground surface and the thickness of snow cover were calculated by using the digital elevation model of 1m mesh size made from the measurement data.Geomorphological features of snow depth distribution are as follows.1)The snow cover had an almost the same depth at the altitude lower than the tree line of a deciduous forest(approximately 1250m a.s.l.)in the condition of slope gradient of 40 or less degrees.2)In the range of altitude lower than the tree line of a deciduous forest on the west side of Mt.Eboshidake(Nyutosan),the average snow depth increased at the rate of 24-31cm per altitude of 100m and the thickness of snow cover was the deepest on the slope slanted to the north directions.3)In the range of altitude higher than the tree line of a deciduous forest on the west side of Mt.Eboshidake(Nyutosan),the depth of average snow cover decreased at the rate of 50cm per altitude of 100m and the thickness of snow cover was the deepest on the slope slanted to the east directions.
