The content of nursing summary for ostomates which had previously been used in our hospital was not useful because it did not adequately explain the condition of the stoma in enough detail. Therefore, the nursing summary was not useful in our outpatient clinic. We revised the content and made a new nursing summary. This summary consists of the diagnosis of disease, the kind of the stoma, informed consent from the ostomate's doctor, the degree of the patient's acceptance of his/her stoma, the name of the stoma appliance being used, complications related to the stoma and the condition of self care of the stoma, etc. We are beter able to evaluate the nursing care of our in-patients with stomas using this summary. This summary is also useful and convenient for our outpatient clinic.
