We experienced a case of a patient with colostomy who was referred a dermatologist due to serious peristomal skin trouble and diagnosed of bullous pemphigoid. While oral steroid was administered to him and local ointment therapy was done to the erosion of the peristomal skin four weeks,non-adhesive appliance was used to the colostomy. As the erosion in the peristomal skin tended toward epithelization, the appliance was switched from non-adhesive system to adhesive system.
From this experience we learned that when we take care of a patient with colostomy diagnosed of bullous pemphigoid,we need adequate evaluation and treatment by a dermatologist. And it is important to avoid adhesive appliance for blisters and to switch from non-adhesive system to adhesive system after epithelization.
