The warm pre-stress effects, which produce an apparent increase in fracture toughness, may have great importance in structural integrity where thermal transients are considered. This study investigates the WPS effects of Load-Unload-Cool-Fracture transient with single edge bend specimens of 780-MPa high strength steel. And the methodology of the assessment for WPS effects on cleavage fracture was proposed with the Master Curve method.

For the diffusion bonding of the membrane with micrometer thickness, it is not investigated in details of the phenomenon like the brakeage of the membrane, the deterioration of the function of the membrane by the change in its compositions and microstructures as the result of diffusion. In this research, apparent diffusion coefficients of Pd into stainless steel are estimated. And the optimum bonding condition of Pd membrane and stainless steel are suggested.

During the braze pressure welding (BPW), its joint can be achieved with the low joining pressure, because the clening metal make the joining interface clean. The BPW can join the pipe tube which is difficult for the conventional pressure joining. For the stainless steel tube pipe, the sensitization always arise around the welding joint. By using the high frequency inductio heating, it is shown that the BPW can joint the stainless steel tube pipe without the sensitization.

In this study, a novel two-step rotation bonding method was applied for the joining of 1mm-thick Al alloys. In the first step, the work-piece was rotation bonded on a specially designed black plate and the keyhole was removed in the second step by using a pinless rotation tool. After bonding, the microstructure observation and mechanical properties were characterized to evaluate this joining methods used for different kinds of Al alloys.

The joints of the carbon steel sheets were obtained using friction stir welding with the liquid CO2. The effect of the liquid CO2 was investigated to obtain good mechanical properties and microstructure of the joints. Laser welded 14%Cr ferritic stainless steel pipe developed in this study showed superior properties during severe forming process and can improve the productivity without PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment). Laser welded pipe showed the minimum width of the weld and lower hardening effect than those of GTA and high frequency induction welded pipe, which resulted in better formability.

New parameter based on Larson-Miller parameter has been proposed to evaluate the tempering effect during thermal cycle in the HAZ of low-alloy steel. The experimental result has revealed that the predicted hardness by calculation using the new parameter is well fitted with the measures one.
