We investigated the rapid analysis method of oils for A heavy oil, light oil and kerosene, which have been the cause of water source water quality accident in the Yodogawa river basin in the past. By using gas chromatograph - time of flight mass spectrometer (GC - TOFMS) with high resolution and fast scanning speed, detailed investigation of causative substances and identification of oil species at the occurrence of oil spill accident can be made, and by using the fast GC analysis method, the analysis time could be shortened compared to the analysis by the conventional low resolution gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GC-MS). In addition, if a water source is affected by an oil spill accident it may result in an off-flavor accident in the raw water. For this reason, we have also investigated the concentration which humans can detect oily odors.
