The special exhibition using the island-shaped exhibition method that prevents the visitor's retention in the exhibition hall by avoiding the use of the moving walls and the tall exhibition cases as much as possible was adopted at the Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History and Human History under the COVID-19. The result of the questionnaire survey on the visitors suggested that this exhibition was thought to have the effects of suppressing the visitors retention. It was also thought that the combination of the island-shaped exhibition and the explanation panels written by easy-to-read as well as easy-to-understand sentences could be possible both to make the intention of the exhibition easier to understand and to increase the overall satisfaction of the exhibition. On the other hand, the explanation system that allows visitors to read the explanations of the exhibitions using their mobile terminals was thought to be able to reduce the visitor's congestion at the exhibition corners. But, the low utilization ratio of this explanation system suggests that the effective measures should be taken for increasing the utilization ratio of the system. Further analyses should be done for evaluating the effectiveness of the island-shaped exhibition method on the communication intention of the exhibitions having more strong exhibition messages and relevance's between exhibition corners than this special exhibition.
