Gemmae were found in the leaf axils of the epiphytic mosses, Japanese material of Schlotheimia japonica and its variety sulcata. Gemmae of these mosses are filamentous, 100-200 μm long, 20-25 μm wide, and composed of 5-10 cells. Each cell is cylindrical, with thick walls covered with hyaline irregular mucilage. An abscission-cell (tmema) is not differentiated and the gemmae are set free schizolitically.
