    Questionnaires and observation on the toilet brush as a product example of household commodities were conducted in order to grasp the use conditions of the users and clarify their requirements. The questionnaire investigated “when, where and how ”the toilet brush was utilized as well as “who” used it and what the nature of toilet cleaning is for every household. Hearings and motion analysis were conducted toilet brush usability in observation research conducted by setting up a temporary toilet in the laboratory and having the examinees clean the toilet room and the toilet seat. Considering these investigation results the users' requirements of the toilet brush are found to be extremely versatile regardless of its limited purpose as cleaning the toilet seat only. To make an easy-to-use toilet brush, it seems necessary for us to take into account the living environment and the daily cleaning habits of users, and the psychological aspect such as feeling of content, accomplishment and refreshment as well as adaptability to various body sizes and cleaning activities.
