The finding that N,N'-diarylmethylenearylmethanediamine (
1) condenses with various kinds of compounds containing an active hydrogen in the presence of ammonium acetate at mild conditions has led to the work extending the synthetic applications of the double Schiff base
1. As the results of the research on the reactions of
1 with various reactants, the many novel compounds shown in the text have been heretofore synthesized, and the pathways for their formations are estimated.

An earthworm moves in the ground, underground and a narrow crevice using many lots of segments. This movement is called peristalsis, and differs from movement of other animals. And this movement is very simple operation compared with movement of other animals. It is thought that a peristalsis is useful in the calamity spot. However, an author does not know the reference seen about the peristalsis. In case equipment will be developed from now on, it is thought that the elucidation of the move mechanism of an earthworm that used the peristalsis is very important. In this research, a camera and equipment are used and it aims at solving the detailed movement mechanism of an earthworm.

It is few that phase information is handled as a research on tone color. Because it has been thought that the phase is unrelated to the tone color. However, the result that the human can detect the phase difference is also reported, when the phase difference between each component sound of complex tone was changed. In one of the auditory sense psychological phenomenon, by the change of the harmonic composition the tone color changes, and it is not change sound pitch. This phenomenon is called "Phenomenon of the missing fundamental (MF)". As we paid attention to this phenomenon in this research, we confirmed the mechanism and examined the influence of the phase change between the component sounds to the perception of MF. As the result, it has been found that the changes of the pitch and the tone color take place in the perception by giving the phase difference. So, we concluded that not only each frequency component but also phase is largely related to a tone color.

Man and woman distinction is necessary to make security stronger and when various statistics on the visitor are taken in commercial facilities and so on. The conventional method of man and woman distinction is currently determined by using the person's appearance, the person's dress and in such cases, the way of walking, the foot pressure, the hair type. But, these characteristics can be intentionally changed by human intervention or design. The proposed method gets a difference in the man's and woman's characteristics by taking images of the heat distribution of the person's face by thermography. This is a man and woman distinction based on the new concept idea which this is used for. Consequently, this can be used to distinguish a man from a woman even if a man turns himself into the woman intentionally (and vice versa), because this method involves biometrics authentication.

Toward development of useful environmental sensing system by using supersonic pulse echo technique, we construct a simple system to visualize the positions of objects in near-field. In this bulletin, after the outline of principles of supersonic pulse echo technique and visual localization of objects is given, we mention about constructed 2D-visualization system and result of experiments by the system, and the feature and effectiveness of proposed method and system are made clear.
