This study suggests a method for walking pattern recognition using the support vector machine (SVM) in a real-world situation, and aims to improve the algorithm based on the principal component analysis (PCA). For the experimental device, a smartphone was used to assess signals from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer sensors. The participants were required to walk repeatedly on a treadmill at 3 km/h and 5 km/h for 3 min each. The results indicate that the PCA-SVM algorithm turned out to be more reliable than the non-PCA algorithm. In addition, the methodology used in this study, showed a robust performance, regardless of the sampling rates of the experimental device, which were from 10 to 50 Hz. The results of this study are expected to help researchers investigate physical movement patterns.

The effects of the cross-sectional area of the cochlear fluid duct on cochlear input impedance were studied using a three-dimensional finite-element model. The model consists of a middle ear and a cochlea. Two different types of cochlea were used in the model: 1) a tapered box cochlea and 2) a coiled cochlea. The cochlear input impedances of the two cochlear models were compared while varying several properties, such as fluid compressibility, round window density, and the cross-sectional area of the cochlear fluid duct. The results showed that the cross-sectional area of the cochlear fluid duct was the most significant factor in determining the cochlear input impedance.

In this paper, we consider the n-job, m-machine proportionate flow shop scheduling problem with one different machine, in which the objective is to minimize maximum completion time. Since the problem is NP-complete, local search methods may not provide solutions of good quality for large size problems. We apply a simulated annealing (SA) to find best solution. The performance of SA is compared with that of local search methods. Extensive experiments are conducted to show the performance of the proposed SA.

After the Kyoto Protocol was negotiated, reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions has become a global issue and challenge to most of countries in the world. Korea belongs to non-Annex B parties without binding targets, but has been devoting a lot of effort into low-carbon policies and reduction of GHGs emissions to cope with predictable future demand. Based on the concept of modal shift, this paper proposes a logistics system using underground (railway) trains and the route network as part of eco-friendly green logistics to reduce GHGs emissions in the transportation sector. The proposed system also is to reduce logistics and road transport-induced social costs. Computational results show that GHGs emissions as well as overall travel distance are reduced and as a result, logistics and social costs are saved significantly.

Video Surveillance with CCTV is widely used for structure monitoring. In this study, we deal with a placement problem of multi-type cameras. We suggest an R-based genetic algorithm to find a feasible solution of surveillance cameras placement problem that satisfies required coverage with minimum cost. We considered 2-dimensional floor plan of structure and available installation area. We could find an approximate solution with required coverage.

To accomplish those objects, firstly, we surveyed global ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) training program and various e-Government skill frameworks. Based on the outcomes, we propose a survey framework for global e-Government training program in Korea.

Introduction of ubiquitous technologies enabled us to transform traditional offline space into interactive digital space, which includes exhibition, home, library, museum and so on. Because types of space and technologies are various, many methodologies have been devised to design and build smart digital space. In this paper, we present some service design cases for digital space based on both our service design platform called UbiTools and our service design procedure. Our procedure considers the characteristics of digital space, economical analysis and technological feasibility. Our practices in real field reveal that we effectively designed and modeled useful services for digital space.

This paper introduces an innovative e-Business model for online shopping based on the 3D scanning technology. The proposed business model applies well-known personalization technique to the online shoes shopping. Although there are a few commercialized personalization or mass customization services for online shoes shopping such as NIKE iD service and mi Addidas service, it is not easy to find shoes that fit into buyers’ feet well. The new business model applies smartphone-based 3D scanning technology that can capture accurate 3D models of buyers’ feet. According to the captured 3D models, the proposed system can recommend the most appropriate shoes to buyers. The structure of the proposed business model including customers and customers’value proposition, products and services, the business process, required resources, revenue models and so on are presented in detail.

This paper proposes a formal concept of stochastic workflow activity-to-performer affiliation network model. The proposed model is based upon the conceptual formalism of an extended information control net [20] that is revised from the original so as to adopt the probability theory to the activity-to-performer bindings in specifying a workflow procedure. In general, when a workflow management engine enacts a workflow procedure, it has to bind each of the corresponding activities up with a performer, together, and which is embodied through an activity-to-performer binding mechanism. As a more sophisticated approach, it is important to apply the probability theory to specify the activity-to-performer bindings, and which is called the probabilistic activity-to-performer bindings. In consequence, this paper expatiates the formal definition of a stochastic workflow activity-to-performer affiliation model that is algorithmically discovered from a set of the probabilistic activity-to-performer bindings specified in an extended information control net, and summarizes the implications of the proposed model in terms of analyzing and quantifying the human-centered knowledge in a workflow-supported organization, such as probabilistic closeness, degree, and betweenness centrality measures, affiliation network dynamics, and degree of fidelity.

In this paper, the differences between the non-disabled people and dyslexic person or hearing-impaired person were understood, and the sign language translator to enable communication between them was developed. One of the current sign language translators should always be equipped with a camera because it recognizes sign language by camera, and it has limitation in real life because it was interpreted directly by the listener. Other one of the sign language translators attached to the finger or inserted into the hand is not good in appearances. The sign language translator developed in this study is a wearable device using Myo and RaspberryPi2 to enable communication anytime and anywhere with other person. Using this device, it is expected that the dyslexic person or hearing-impaired person can communicate easily with non-disabled people and their independence and quality of life will be achieved.

This paper formalizes a stochastic model for workflow-supported organizational social networks, which is graphically represented by a directed graph with holding probabilities on arcs, and which is semantically conveying a quantitative analysis of the collaborative comradeships formed through performing workflow-supported activities in an organization. The stochastic model is algorithmically discovered from the probabilistic binding relationships between activities and performers in a corresponding workflow procedure of the information control net. Through the stochastic model, it is eventually possible to analyze the degrees of collaborations as well as the progression of the collaborative comradeship dynamics. In conclusion, this paper mathematically formulates the stochastic model and describes its implications as an impeccable solution to be used in not only discovering human-centered organizational behavioral dynamics but also measuring the human-centered fidelities of workflow procedures via model-log comparisons as workflow-supported organizational knowledge.

Applying fuzzy clustering method to the instruction structure analysis, we investigate whether the order of teaching items is suitable or not. But, it is difficult to find a better teaching order because there are a lot of questions in each unit. In this paper, the authors newly define cluster connectivity degree and present an analysis method among clusters. We show some matrices and graphs required for analysis based on the results of midterm examination for high school students about conic curve (parabola, ellipse and hyperbola) and indicate a reasonable teaching order of the conic curve better than a usual textbook order.

In this paper proposes an object detection method that uses Histograms of Oriented Gradients (HOG) features using two-stage boosting. There has been done many research works in recent years on statistical training methods and object detection methods that combine low-level features obtained. However, in our proposed approach, low-level HOG features are combined by using Real AdaBoost to automatically generate features. In this way, it is possible to capture a shape of symmetry and edge continuity, which single HOG features cannot do, so highly accurate detection is realized. In this paper, to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, three different experiments with different patterns are conducted for detecting humans. Moreover, a boosting classifier is used to represent the co-occurrence of the HOG features appearance for detecting a pedestrian.

Fuzzy time-series (FTS) has been applied to handle non-linear problems, such as enrollment, weather and stock index forecasting. In the forecasting processes, fuzzy logical relation (FLR) plays a pivotal role in forecasting accurately. Usually FTS uses an equal interval to obtain forecasted values. However, in this paper, we use genetic algorithms (GA) to optimize the interval at first. Based on this, then rough sets (RS) method is used to recalculate the values. In the empirical analysis, Japan stock index is used as experimental data sets and one fuzzy time-series method, as a comparison model. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is more efficient than the FTS method.

Predicting revenues from a production it is a difficult problem due to the uncertainty risk deciders have to deal with. Popular functions managing risk for shaping a loss distribution, namely value-at-risk (VaR), conditional value-at-risk (CVaR) have been used. This work, under the framework of cooperative game theory employs linear programming (LP) techniques to obtain Shapley values in order to check the risk in a production planning problem. Periods are interpreted as players and CVaR is defined as the characteristic function to measure the worth of individual players and respective coalitions.

These days, the face-tracking-technique progresses on smartphones and computers with web camera. Then many useful applications software are developed and provided as open source. On the other hand, HTML5, JavaScript and server side techniques are used on more interactive browsing environment. In this article, we evaluated our web browsing interface by face tracking and then discussed the result of experiment. The result of experiment showed that our proposed method is available for simple and easy web browsing even when both hands are busy, but three problems are followings; some user's tiredness during operation, calibration on control, and accuracy of face-movement recognition. These are future issues.

This paper is the survey and discussion report about the readability indices for Japanese medical documents. The survey targets are medicine documents of “package insert” and “Kusuri no Shiori”. “Kusuri no Shiori” is a collection of documents aimed to read easier for patients. We compared those documents with the same medicines, using our readability indices (i.e., jFRE, jFKG, jARI, jCLI, jSMOG), which are adapted to both English and Japanese documents by the variable replacement method. The result of evaluate experiment showed that the almost documents of “Kusuri no Shiori” were easier than the others. Furthermore, some of jFRE calculated from “package insert” were not satisfied the difficulty criterion of FRE for life insurance policies, but all of jFRE calculated from “Kusuri no Shiori” were satisfied the criterion. Therefore, it was suggested that our proposed method is able to be used for ensuring readability in Japanese medical documents as same as English version (i.e., FRE).

The kindergarten children identification technology is a useful technique for monitoring the existence of child automatically in a short time span. Due to the fact that the infant faces are difficult to be identified, this work proposes a personal identification method using clothing feature. The proposed method extracts clothing regions from images according to the face position. Then it identifies the individual by comparison of clothing feature. The experimental result shows the possibility that the proposed method is able to identify children.

This paper proposes a method of recognizing finger-spelled letters using a video obtained from a chest-mounted camera. A finger-speller performs the spelling to the camera mounted on his/her chest. The images of the speller's hand are captured and analyzed by a PC to recognize the letters. For the hand detection, the color distribution of the hand is examined initially to cope with various illumination conditions. The detected hand area is recognized using the PCA and the nearest neighbor method. Experimental results show satisfactory performance of the proposed method.

The improvement in performance of computers has become possible to display complex 3D graphics. However, when using a uniform mesh, number of polygons increases. In addition, it takes more time to generate and to display the polygon. We propose a real-time landscape simulation system through the fuzzy theory. In this system, we reduce the polygon by using a partition tree. Furthermore, we propose a method of changing the view point moves in real-time based on the altitude.

In this research, we study about the method of speeding up the calculation for Complex Discrete Wavelet Transform (CDWT). CDWT is a kind of wavelet transform that was proposed by this laboratory, and it can solve the lack of translation invariance of the conventional wavelet transforms. However, the calculation amount is increased to approximately 2 times compare to the conventional method because the calculation is done in complex number. We have focused on lifting scheme as a method to reduce the amount of calculation. Lifting scheme is only defined to correspond to wavelets with compact support. However, in this study we design the filter of lifting-scheme for the wavelets that do not have a compact support, such as Meyer wavelet and the imaginary part of complex wavelet. Then, we check the validity of the filter configuration and make sure the shift invariance is maintained. Furthermore, the reduction of calculation amount by lifting-scheme can increase the calculation speed for CDWT.

Neutrophil is known as one of the immunological system. In general, the neutrophil is moved to high concentration of cytokine in the blood vessel, and derived to the inflammation areas. However, the mechanism of propulsion has not been elucidated yet. In this paper, concentration on the surface of neutrophil and surrounding fluid are examined computationally by concentration gradient of cytokine. From the computational result, it is concluded that the fluidity of neutrophil surface influences neutrophil's motion.

Recently, remote-controlled robots tend to play important roles in various kinds of fields, such as medical care, maintenances of nuclear facilities, rescue activities in hazardous area and so on. However, abnormal actions and errors of operators cause injury to human life. As a remedy, in this paper, a simple method for anomaly detection of operators in a master-slave control system for remote-controlled robots. Based on an approach from control engineering, a feedback-loop cut by human error in a master system can be found by monitoring an unstable behavior of a control variable.

We consider to develop a brain-machine interface (BMI) based rehabilitation system for leg paralysis patients. Thus, we proposed the motion discrimination method for a healthy subject's bicycle ergometer exercise using event related desynchronization (ERD) of electroencephalogram (EEG). On the other hand, steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) occurred in the visual cortex caused by periodic visual stimulation is often used for the feature value of BMI. To verify the possibility of ERD/SSVEP simultaneous utilization, this report carried out the EEG measurement during bicycle ergometer exercise with stimulating his vision using blink checkerboard pattern.

To develop a functional prosthetic hand robot with a structure similar to a human hand, we consider to apply artificial muscles as actuators of a robot hand. As such an artificial muscle, this report experimentally produced a heat contraction type artificial muscle developed from nylon thread proposed in recent years. Here, we developed a manufacturing equipment of artificial muscles and investigated fundamental characteristics of the artificial muscle produced by the equipment from electrically-conductive nylon thread. In addition, we carried out finger robot driving experiment using the artificial muscle.

We observed the effect of magnetic force on thermal convection by the development of automatic visualization system. We visualized the temperature distribution of convection by using a theromosensitive liquid crystal. In the weightless condition with an upward magnetic force, we first confirmed the realization of thermal conduction state of convection, i.e., horizontal isothermal distributions with distinct color contrast. Those distributions were easily vanished with the disappearance of weightless condition and the inducement of convection.

We did experiment in order to understand that if a person who sees the CG facial expression is entertain what feelings. Subjects saw the CG facial expression of the six basic emotions (Happy, Angry, Sad, Hate, Fear, Surprise) and evaluated their feelings by using the SAM (Self-assessment manikin). As a result, there was a difference in the influence of emotions that give the CG facial expressions that shows Fear, we found that the big difference is not seen in the other facial expression.

We investigated the role of masking noise in the auditory feedback experiment. We conducted an experiment in which we assessed whether it had any influence on the voice fundamental frequency (F0) or the intensity level of one's voice. The result shows that if participants can check the sound pressure level of their voice, there isn’t any effect of masking noise on their voice F0 and intensity level.

This study is based on a hypothesis inspired by the biofeedback therapy that learners can improve learning efficiency or learning experience by their self-control of emotions. To verify it, we have developed a real-time system which can measure learners’ engagement and feedback it by audio signal while they are learning. We tried different types of audio signal in experiment. As the result, it has been proved that the environmental noise feedback in a proper way will have a positive effect on the learner’s involvement in learning and learning experiences with users’ self-reports and EEG data from users.

Breathing sound reflects the respiratory status, such as a state of airway, effort of respiration, alteration of sound induced by disease, and so on. We have been developing a breath sound sensor with improved acoustic impedance matching. In this paper, we compared two simulation methods based on the frequency characteristics of sensor. First of all, we executed numerical analysis of breath sound sensor, based on the electrical equivalent circuit model. Next, we used the FEM to simulate compared with the numerical simulation in electrical equivalent circuit model. The reason why to use FEM was that FEM could simulate the various conditions of sensor parameter. From the results, we concluded FEM simulation was more useful.

We discuss an approach to signal-to-noise ratio improvement for an optical wave microphone. With the optical wave microphone, ultra-weak diffraction light, which is resulting from phase modulation from a sound wave, is converted to an electrical signal using a light detector. The feature of this microphone is that sound waves cannot be detected without disturbing airflow and a sound field. Signal intensity could be increased or signal-to-noise ratio could be improved with optically, using electrical circuit, or using information processing. In this study, we adopted an independent component analysis as one of the methods using information processing. In the future, we would like to apply this method to measurement of body-sounds for detecting disease and the mental stress.

Tubes of many different lengths are needed to emit a musical scale from the resonance tube of the water instrument. In order to downsize the instrument, we can perforate the resonance tube and reduce its number or adjust its length. With the conventional study, the acoustical properties were measured with water continuously running through the plugged tube. However, when you play the water instrument, its hole cannot be kept closed. We need a mechanism for matching the time of water droplets reaching water surface with that of closing the hole for a short time. Various kinds of sounds are generated depending on the number of holes and its location on the resonance tube and its thickness. In this study the mechanism of water instrument as mentioned above has been made clear and its musical performance has been demonstrated.

Recently, according to the development of portable terminals, high-speed A/D conversion, low power consumption and miniaturization are required in an A/D converter. Particularly, the power consumption of the A/D converter takes up high percentage in portable electronics. Therefore, many studies have been made on reduction of the power consumption. However, the power consumption is high because generally A/D converters require many analog comparators. In this study, by using neuron CMOS inverters that the power consumption is less than the analog comparator, we constitute an A/D converter which has characteristic of low power consumption. We integrated the proposed A/D converter by 2μm CMOS process and confirmed the operation by experiments using its IC chips.

Radiation transport simulation codes are used to make an assessment of proton and heavy ion radiotherapies and to make a calculation of radiation shield for medical accelerator facilities. Double differential cross section (DDX) of charged particle production is one of the important elements to assess and improve such simulation codes. We investigated proton production DDX using 40MeV proton beams on carbon and aluminum targets at backward angles. Proton production DDX of this region has been hardly reported for proton incident reaction. Emitted proton energies were measured with spectrometer consisting of two surface barrier-type Si detectors and a GSO(Ce) crystal scintillation detector by the ΔE-E technique. In this paper, we propose the integral type monostable multivibrator corresponding to operational amplifier of both and single power supplies specification in the same circuit configuration. This circuit can be realized in a very simple configuration. Also, the relationship between measured and calculated values of the metastable time agrees well.

Many clinicians come to pay attention to the kampo for the case that is hard to be treated in Western medicine recently. However, kampo preparation often includes many crude drugs and there are many kinds of kampo preparations. It is very difficult for a general clinician to use the medicine properly. In this study, we proposed a method to distinguish the kampo preparations easily. First of all, we define the matrix that expresses the kinship relation between the kampo preparations. Then we try to classify them by using the matrix.

植村や堀と椿によって、ファジィ推論においては、ノーデータ問題でも分布が二つ必要であることが指摘されている。ファジィ理論では、曖昧さにはFuzzyness とVaguness の二つの概念があり、Fuzzyness のほうは、主観可能性分布で規定し、Vaguness の方は、ファジィ事象のメンバシップ関数で規定する。ここで、メンバシップ関数は、事象をぼやけたファジィ事象に変換・写像する関数であることに注意されたい。従って、写像の拡張原理が適用なり、ファジィ効用関数が導出され、マックスプロダクト演算後、最大の可能性測度を有する行動を最適行動とするのが、ファジィベイズ意思決定法則である。また、タイプ2 型ファジィ事象は、無差別領域を持ち、そのメタ分布はVaguness 上のPossibility を表す。本稿では、タイプ2 型ファジィ事象を有するファジィベイズ意思決定法則を宗教的にこの世のあり方を鬼道から捉え、鬼道におけるタイプ2 型ファジィ集合の役割を述べる。

In this study, we suggest a discrete choice model based on the improvement of the value from the viewpoint of value and utility. A number of dialysis patients in Japan has reached 31 million. Dialysis treatment is indispensable for maintaining life of these patients. In dialysis treatment extracorporeal circulation of blood is necessary and massive bleeding accident can be caused by removing needle unintentionally. In this study, we intended to a examination to develop a needle removal detection system using electrostatic coupling method. As a result, the possibility of detecting the needle removal by the system was suggested.

A method of salient object region extraction by virtual super pixel(VSP) is applied to ECSSD(extended complex saliency dataset) composed of 1000 images and compared with state of the art using F-measure.The F-measure at zero threshold of the presented method was about the same as those at the best threshold of the-state-of-art methods. ECSSD is harder than MSRA1000 as the highest frequency of the latter is at around 0.9 of the chi-square distance between GT and the background and it of ECSSD at around 0.25.

This paper investigates the effects of quantization size for sound quality improvement on body-conducted speech using difference calculation. In former research, we proposed and evaluated that the sound quality improvement method using difference calculation and noise reduction method for body-conducted speech. However, the performance depends on the quantization size, because of the dynamic range of the sound. It was confirmed to achieve higher SNR than speech when quantization size was used by 16 bit and 24 bit.

Sensor network is an important measurement tool to measure or monitor the source signals that cannot be measured directly, and signal correlation analysis is often necessary to detect some information of the source signals from the measured signals. The tiltmeter network is such a sensor network to monitor the low frequency and long period ground motions for the investigation of the mechanism of deep ground motions and earthquake occurrence. In this paper, a correlation analysis based method is considered to estimate the arrival time difference of seismic waves, then to estimate the epicenter location with weight coefficients given by the cross verification for the arrival time difference.

This paper proposed an application of image recognition technology in parking lot security management system. It combined with the license plate recognition system and facial recognition system. The system integrates two functional capabilities, which can effectively control user identity and to enhance parking lot management and security. According to the experimental results, there is good recognition accuracy in this system. It can effectively control the user information. It also reduces the risk and the cost compared to use traditional human security guards. Moreover, this technology can be used in hospital or elder care center also.

It is a known fact that character recognition is a key to a high recognition rate for a license plate recognition. Hence, this paper presents a novel feature extraction approach in an attempt not merely to well maintain a high recognition rate but also to reduce the computational load considerably. As opposed to a conventional counterpart, feature extractions are performed on a column and on a row basis in this novel approach. With a total of M × N blocks over such divided character, the dimension of a feature vector is reduced from M × N in a conventional approach to M + N in this work. It is experimentally demonstrated that the recognition accuracy rate is well maintained with a 91% computational load reduction through k-means clustering algorithm in the case of M=36, N=16. In other words, the use of this algorithm enables a handheld device to meet the energy saving requirement for extended operations.

A vector control induction motor drive with fuzzy based adaptive rotor speed on-line identification is presented. First, the rotor-field oriented control induction motor drive scheme is established. Then, the current-and-voltage serial-model rotor-flux estimator is developed to acquire the flux position angle for coordinate transformation. The designed fuzzy adaptive speed identification scheme based on the developed rotor flux estimator that guaranteed to obtain exact estimation rotor speed. Simulation and experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A mobile nursing app (mNurse) have demonstrated a significant time saving (TS) in compare with the traditional Nursing Information System (NIS). Decision tree is a prediction model using tree structure or hierarchical structure. We build a decision tree model to illustrate the willingness of job retention in 120 nurse’s dataset. We applied the C4.5 algorithm by using Weka machine learning analysis freeware. A nurse will make a decision of Job retention if the TS>70 seconds. In the group of TS ≤70 seconds, a nurse with age less than or equal to 26 years old won’t make a decision of Job retention. Finally, in the group of nurses with age greater than 26 years old, a nurse with working year (WY) of 8 or less will make the decision of job retention whereas WY greater than 8 won’t.
