Many researchers have taken an interest in the inference of genetic networks from the time-series of DNA microarray data, and this has become one of major topics in bioinformatics field. In order to infer S-system models of genetic networks, we have proposed the method. However, the method is hard to analyze actual DNA microarray data containing many hundreds or thousands of genes. To overcome this problem of the proposed method, we combine our method with a clustering technique. In this study, we present the condition that the similarity measure of the clustering method must satisfy.

This paper discusses knowledge acquisition method using variable precision rough set model, and appraises precision of the method. And we suggest other knowledge acquisitions on the basis of this model. We show that we can obtain better results than the ordinary method of knowledge acquisition and discriminant analysis.

Single Input Rule Modules connected type fuzzy reasoning method (SIRMs method, for short) by Yubazaki can decrease the number of fuzzy rules drastically in comparison with the conventional fuzzy reasoning models. SIRMs method is shown to be superior to the ordinary methods by applying to non-linear functions. Furthermore, SIRMs method is applied to a diabetes diagnostic system, showing the validity.

Investigating the shape and time to peak (HR delay) of hemodynamic response (HR) introduces a new facet of researches on human brain function. We have proposed an analysis method for detecting activated areas and measuring HR delay simultaneously using event related function magnetic resonance images (ER-fMRI). The method has been based on wavelet transform. In this paper, we investigate the performance of the method by modifying a mother wavelet. The modified mother wavelet is based on mathematically defined HR function by SPM (statistic parametric mapping) software by Friston et al. To evaluate the proposed method, we applied the proposed method and conventional methods to the phantom data. The results showed that the method could detect the activated area equivalent to and more than conventional methods. We also estimated the accuracy of measuring HR delay. The results showed that the proposed method could measure HR delay more accurate than the conventional method.

The human lung is composed of five compartments called "Lung lobes." Segmenting lung lobes from chest Multidetector-row Computed Tomography (MDCT) images can provide effective information for analyzing pulmonary conformation and detecting pulmonary diseases such as the emphysema. Our method finds the boundary surface between lung lobes by the fuzzy control that fits a curved surface into the space with lower density of tubular tissues, which are defined as peripheral blood vessels and bronchus. This paper describes the performance evaluation of the proposed method and the application method for estimating the forced vital capacity of individual lung lobes.

We can apply the technique of the digital curve in 2-dimensional space to the analyzing of object-shape in 3-dimensional space by using the contour lines. Those contour lines are 2-dimensional digital curves. The shape of digital curve on the plane is analyzed by using correlation of the complex valued functions. The complex valued function represents a curved line on the complex plane which is the same as the digital curve in the 2-dimensional space. The similarity defined by cross correlation of two digital curves in the 2-dimensional space is invariant to size and rotation.

Biomedical Fuzzy System Association (BMFSA) was established in May of 1985 and the first annual meeting was held in February of 1989. Many presidents of BMFSA, many chairmen and program chiefs of annual meetings, chief editors of journals and many earnest members contributed to progress of BMFSA and development of the soft computing sciences. Unfortunately it is said that BMFSA is coming to "the corner" in its history. From the view point of looking back the past history and forecasting the coming future, I tried to survey the activities of many contributors to nineteen years history of BMFSA, through the journals and the paper books of national annual meetings. The analyzed result are summarized into eleven categories : 1. Fuzzy theory, 2. Neural network, 3. G. A. and Chaos theory, 4. Self-Organizing Maps, 5. Medical diagnosis, 6. Health checkup, 7. 組織構築を行うにあたり、Protein Expression Programming (PEP)の手法のひとつであるカウンターコマンドを使い、肝臓の線維化の場面で、ノンコラーゲンタンパクに多く含まれているアミノ酸(Met, Tyr, Leu, Val)を加えて、(特に、Metの投与は線維化を抑えるという報告があるが)ラットの肝臓に線維を発現させることが出来た。しかし、発現したコラーゲンの量はGly, Pro, Cys, Alaを与えたときに比べ少なく、不満を残すものであった。そこで、いままではコラーゲンから決定していたカウンターコマンドを、線維化の構成タンパクであるコラーゲン・エラスチン(モル比は7:3とする)から決定し、PEPのクンパク質発現効果とそれに沿ったカウンターコマンドの理論について考察する。

動脈硬化を起こしている動脈内壁はアテローム変成を起こしており、脂肪、コレステロール、血栓が形成され線維が発生し、血管の柔軟性が失われている。動脈硬化が進行すると、粘性が増した時に動脈閉塞を引き起こし、いわゆる心筋梗塞、脳梗塞や慢性動脈閉塞症が起こる。今回我々は、線維化プログラムと脂肪合成プログラムを並列して走らせる事により、ラットの心臓、肝臓、腎臓の至る所に動脈閉塞を作成する事に成功した。また心臓や腎臓では好中球の浸潤が認められた。ここでは並列して進行する2つのプログラムを詳しく説明する。

生体組織の再構築法として、遺伝子発現をON・OFF制御する法(ファジィカオス法)が有る。これを利用する為のコマンドの開発を行い動脈硬化組織の正常化をめざし制御を行なった。開発したGEPコマンドは、生化学反応を利用するβ-oxidation, Activate PPP、遺伝子発現をおこすDigestcollagen、医薬品を使用するSuspend embolismである。動脈硬化の掃除は14日間の血管掃除の後、内膜で被う28日間の維持期間を置いた。これを3回繰り返したら掃除が出来た。

Myoelectric upper limb proshesis for amputee of higher order is unable to move all the movable parts just as sound arms. The reason why it cannnot give indications to all the movable parts only by myoelectric signals and wire. And then first of all I made neurone network learn the relationship of the actions between both arms and worked out the system which controls arttificial arms by using myoelectric signal and the action of sound arms. After making foundamental action of both arms learn, I imputted daily action into neurone network and simulated, as the result I got the effectiveness.

Age-related changes in the visibility rating of several web-safe color combinations were examined using a paired comparison. Fifty-one subjects ranging from ages 20s to 70s were recruited. We found that color combination ranking has a positive monotonic relationship with sensation magnitude in all ages. This indicates that the visibilities of color combinations can be rated by the luminance pairs of foreground and background colors.

In this article, we describe a Web browsing method with an automatic color correction (palette changing) for personal user's visibility. Especially we describe a paired comparison test and SOM (Self-Organizing Map) analysis for achromatic character and chromatic background colors, and we propose a color set prediction method with SOM for personal visibility on Web browsing. We are implementing and evaluating a web application system for this method as CGI (Common Gateway Interface) software on a HTTP server of the Internet. Since a user profiling is required beforehand for every user, we have to consider about this problem with SOM. The proposed method is available for this problem.

In this article, we describe about an analysis of fundamental visibility on Web color sets by Self-Organizing Maps (SOM), and an paired comparison test for its training. In recent years, people in many age groups use the Web frequently. However, there are few Web contents in consideration of their accessibilities. Therefore, there are also many pages that are hard to see for people in a specific age group (elderly people). We think that the visibility of the Web will be very important in the near future. As visibility, we focused only on the combination of character and background colors, which is called color sets, among the design-elements of Web contents. In the combination of character and background colors, we conducted the paired comparison test for collecting the standard data of visibility, and analyzed the paired comparison data using the Self-Organization Maps.

It is difficult to define a comfortable space for human being. It comes partly from the reason because many attributes characterizing a space are related to comfortability, partly from the reason because all people have different preference, and also from the reason because even the same person changes their preference according the state of their health, body and so on. We intend to control various parameters and attributes in order to realize such a comfortable space according the accumulated data-base about people's usages of the space. Human random generation test (HRG) is expected to be used for detecting a mental disease in a handy, noninvasive way. In order to implement such function in a simple apparatus, we need a quick way to compute an appropriate measure, or to recognize patterns to be used for diagnosis. We examine the effectiveness of hidden Markov model (HMM) for HRG by using two sets of data which we took in 1997 and 2003 from 13 students in total. Our result implies that HRG offers information enough to identify group of people but not enough to recognize individuals by means of HMM.

To keep up with a rapidly changing world and increasing importance of advancing globalization, there is a real need for effective way to learn English conversation in non-English-speaking countries as Japan. To investigate how and which portion of the cerebrum plays an important role is essential as a bases for developing efficient way of the learning. A localization of brain function in recalling long term memories consolidated by mnemonics was carried out using electroencephalograms (EEG) measurements. The data was summed in each epoch of 3 seconds and the equivalent current dipole localization (ECDL) was done to estimate the source.

体内深部の癌の放射線治療に負パイ(π^-)中間子を使用する利点は,体表面から患部までの正常組織には低LET放射線で且つ付与する線量は少なく,π^-中間子のrest energy領域での患部にはBragg-peak効果とスター形成による高LET放射線で且つ付与する線量は大きく従って治療効果比が大きいと理論的に高く評価される事である.我国内では物理学的・医学的に治療応用の為の具体的な実験研究は未だ行われていない.我々は特にπ中間子が正常組織を飛行中のプラトー領域での高LET粒子の発生に注目しその影響を調べた.この論文は第1報として,国立高エネルギー物理学研究所の12GeV陽子シンクロトロン加速器を用いて発生させた運動量150, 173Mev/cのπ中間子を人体模疑物質ルサイトに照射し,正・負パイ(π^±)中間子の飛程と捕捉・吸収の後の残存曲線の実験結果を示す.飛程は理論値とよく一致した.残存曲線にはπ+とπ^-中間子では差異が認められた.またピーク・プラトー比は約10対1と予想値よりはるかによい結果を得た.

In this paper, an orthognathic surgery support system, in which a beauty score of postoperative profile is considered, is proposed. In ordinary operation planning, a beauty score is estimated from predictive postoperative profile. However, it is difficult to predict the postoperative profile with accuracy. In the proposed system, classification maps for preoperative profile and hard tissue movement are constructed using self-organizing maps, and reasonable hard tissue movement can be estimated by observing these two maps.

Our study has specifically addressed scientifically classifying information from a pulse wave. In addition, we have tried classification assessment of disease state so far by applying nonlinear chaotic analysis to acceleration plethysmogram time series data. The present study examines a new analytical method to supplement information that is missed by the recurrence plot method. We report on this new method as we have used it in conventional research.

This paper presents fast algorithms for extracting fuzzy association rules from database. The objective of the algorithm is to improve the computational time of mining and to reduce the extracted redundant rules for the actual application. In this paper, for extracting fuzzy association rules, it is assumed that conclusion part of the fuzzy rule is specified in advance. This assumption corresponds to actual problems, e.g. diagnostics problem of the process, quality control action of manufacturing, and so on. The algorithm is based on the Apriori algorithm for rule extraction of the specified output field or output fuzzy set. From the results of numerical experiments, the algorithm is found to be effective compared with the conventional method in terms of computational efficiency.

Recently, a lot of social systems have been computerized using Information Technology (IT). It is no exception in hospitals. Hospital support systems are also rapidly being computerized using such as Diagnosis Reservation System, Ordering System for Drug Prescriptions, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and so on. In the immediate future, all of medical data will be stored to the database server in the hospital, and it is considered that complete paper-less and film-less system in hospitals become reality. These stored data, however, is not used effectively for analysis because of the great deal of the data and its variety - image data, numerical data, text data and so on. Previously, knowledge discovery methods from numerical medical database were studied and discussed actively. Text mining method for medical data, however, has not been enough discussed. This study discusses knowledge discovery method from Electronic Medical Records using Self Organizing Map (SOM) and its possibility. As the first step of this research, this paper describes the outline of keyword mapping method using SOM from Incident Reports. This paper also discusses the keyword extraction method from EMR and the coding method of SOM.

Recently, it became very attractive to measure the health degree by the pulse wave measuring method. Then, we can analyze the degree of arteriosclerosis, and the vein age by the subject's pulse without visiting medical doctors. Already, we proposed the system using the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) for finding the health and the fatigue degree where the measuring time is very short. In this report, we propose the technology for raising the analysis accuracy from the statistics distribution obtained from the pulse wave.

With the progress of practical applications of the fuzzy theory, it is becoming increasingly difficult to design and tune larger and more complicated systems with the help of fuzzy knowledge alone. Various methods of tuning the fuzzy reasoning rules used for the approximation of given input-output data intended for the solution of such problems have been proposed, including methods combining fuzzy reasoning and neural networks or methods of tuning the fuzzy reasoning rules by using optimization techniques based on genetic algorithms. However, these methods cannot cope with many problems completely, for example, rapid increase of the number of rules and large scale change of fuzzy system as the number of inputs and outputs increases. To overcome these problems, we add a technique of genetic algorithm to the optimization of fuzzy reasoning using the steepest descent method. In a technique of genetic algorithm, this new method can select some kinds of membership functions(MSFs), delete some lengthy rules, and optimize MSFs. In addition, this new method can improve generalization ability as a result of selection of MSFs adapting to the model. The advantages of this new method are proved by numerical examples with multi input and output learning data involving function approximations.

A cluster analysis method is proposed in this paper. This method is able to visualize a multi-dimensional dataset as a graphical object, or glyph, and extract a tree structure from the object as a dendrogram. As a benchmark, the fisher's iris dataset was used. As a result, the dendrogram took 17.3 percent of error, but the glyptic visualization helped to locate these errors. To obtain more useful dendrogram which has the corresponding visualization, use of this method is recommended.

In this paper, a developmental procedure of the autonomous mobile robot DREAM-3 is described. The DREAM-3 is a mobile robot typed as an electrically driven wheel chair. The aim to develop DREAM-3 is make it travel in indoor environments such as in hospitals and/or welfare facilities for their practical use and serve to care for old people and physically handicapped person. Such a mobile robot has to provide especially the following properties : (1) safety (2) reliability and robustness. To maintain these properties in the traveling, the authors have proposed an environmental map for DREAM-3. Using sensor information, the robot position with its direction is specialized in the environment map. The traveling can be controlled by both traveling trajectory in the environmental map and in the real traveling environment. As a result, this map plays an important role for determining the robot position accurately and for its stable traveling.
