China's import ban on recyclable wastes has affected many countries, and various papers have been published to analyze the impact of the ban. This paper provides an overview of the effects of China's import ban on recyclable wastes, such as changes in trade volume, changes within China and their effects on other countries, and the effects on companies that have carried out environmentally sound international resource circulation. The paper also discusses the prospect for future research on international resource circulation. Future studies should consider various topics including indicators for evaluating international resource circulation, the impact of the Basel Convention on trade, and the trade of remanufactured/second-hand goods. Especially regarding the Asian region where economic integration is progressing, there is a need for research that contributes to the construction of a framework for promoting resource circulation.
