This paper discusses business lobbying activities in the European environment and energy policy making process. Business and industry are considered powerful actors that have great influence on EU policy making. However, this paper questions this conventional view through a case study of ecodesign legislation and the issue of double regulation. Drawing on the advocacy coalition framework and new institutionalist theory, this paper analyzes the review process of ecodesign implementing measures on industrial fans where the issue of double regulation was widely taken up. It describes the lobbying activities of final product manufacturers who fought against double regulation and highlights several factors that explain why their lobbying activities led to limited results.

The results of referenda often create distributional frictions between gainers and losers. However, no study has investigated how voters' distributional preferences affect voting in a referendum. This paper uses multiplayer, multigroup experimental dictator games to examine the influence of distributional preferences on voting decisions, controlling for strategic behavior. The experimental results show that only 6.7% of voting choices deviate from self-payoff maximization. The results also indicate that the frequency of choices consistent with distributional preferences is positively associated with lack of economic incentive, reduced anonymity, and self-justification.

Although resource, environment, and time constraints are key determinants of our behavior, scholars in environmental economics and policy studies have not paid much attention to time constraints. However, it is expected that time allocation will also become an important research agenda item in environmental economics and policy studies. This paper first describes the relationship between individual time use and environmental burden based on a household production model. Then, choosing energy consumption and recycling activities as examples, it examines the relationship between time allocation and environmental burden of households. Finally, it summarizes the research agenda on time allocation and environmental load of households.

The idea that sustainable growth of a company requires not only financial performance, but also ESG-conscious management has become widespread. Initiatives for ESG management and monetary valuation of non-financial information have only just begun, and research institutions and companies are trying to develop and improve indicators and measurement and quantification methods. This paper introduces the latest research and case studies on ESG management, describes future prospects for research, and introduces issues for the development of research. In particular, the relationship between Sustainable Development Goals and ESG management is of particular interest in assessing the impact of corporate activities on society, and it is important to be able to explain the relationship between the two in an easy-to-understand manner to stakeholders.
