“Strategy of Morning Slow Food” is a project of dietary education for children with participating teachers at school, parents at home and dentist in the district. The first trial of “ assignment study for diet” and actual situation of dietary life of the students of primary and junior high schools in Kashiwa city (n=9,471), was considered a part of “Strategy of Morning Slow Food” was held in the autumn of 2006. The purpose of this study was to examine the results and importance of dietary education to students.
1) The rates of no breakfast on Sunday were 3.1% for primary school students and 7.9% for junior high school students, respectively.
2) The rates of breakfast alone on Sunday were 19.3% for primary school students and 48.3% for junior high school students, respectively.
3) The results of those who answered the questionnaire showed significance between students of primary and junior high schools (p < 0.001).
4) The rates of knowledge as “breakfast eating slowly and chewing well is good for health” conveyed to parents were 59.2% for primary school students and 25.0% for junior high school students, respectively.
5) The students of “no conveyance to parents” showed high rates of no breakfast, alone, quick chewing, no TV and no conversation with family at the Sunday’s breakfast (p< 0.001).
6) The results of those who answered the questionnaires between conveyance and nonconveyance to parents were significance between students of primary and junior high school (p < 0.001).
These results showed that there is a possibility of improvement of dietary custom with intervention of the school staff and the importance of this project should be continued by the school, family and dentist.
