    Several investigators reported that the administrations of exogenous ACTH into various animals stimulated their renin-angiotensin systems. So I studied the effect of exogenous ACTH on renin-angiotensin system in man; especially human plasma renin activity and angiotensin II levels. Plasma renin activity was measured by the "improved" method of Skinner. For the measurement of plasma angiotensin II level, the preparation of antiangiotensin II serum was made out by combining of the rabbit serum albumin and the synthetic angiotensin II amide with the carbodiimide reaction (the method of Goodfriend et al) and injecting its combining material into several rabbits. And the extraction of angiotensin II from human plasma was carried out through the column of Dowex 50 W-X 2 (NH4) by the method of Haas et al. The plasma angiotensin II level was radioimmunoassayed with the procedures of the dextran-coated charcol method. The human plasma renin activity and angiotensin II levels were significantly rised at 30 minutes after the intramuscular injections of ACTH (ORGANON) 25 units into the normotensives and the hy-pertensives, and were concomitantly failed at 60 or 120 minutes compared with the control values. And the plasma renin activity and angiotensin II levels of the normotensives could not differ from that of the hypertensives. It was concluded that the administration of exogenous ACTH into man could abruptly raise his plasma renin activity and angiotensin II level.

    A study is made on a relatively simple system which can find the abnormal conditions of a diesel engine in a short time utilizing the sounds emitted from the engine. The 4-cycle diesel engine, whose rated power is 1100kW, is used in this experimental study. The experiments are carried on a voyage.
    A statistical method can be used for detecting abnormalities. The basic sound pattern of normal operation in the engine is formed. Sample sound is compared with this basic sound pattern, and judge whether the engine turn abnormal condition.
    In this system, authors cosider a series of process of the sounds sampling, data processing, judging whether the sounds are normal, as a sequential operation and examine algorithm which can quickly perform these processings by a personalcomputer. In conclusion, this paper shows the results of this system continuously performing a series of processing from sounds sampling to judgment on whether they are normal. The diagnose takes time of 28 seconds for a 4 stroke cycle, and its results can also be commented favorably.

    Twentyfour of new N-derivatives of 2, 5-dichloroaniline, 2, 5-dichloro-4-bromo-aniline and 2, 5-dichloro-4-thiocyanatoaniline were synthesized in order to investigate the potential antimicrobial activity. Among them, 2-hydroxy-5-bromobenzoyl derivatives were found to give strong antibacterial activities on Staph. aureus in vitro.

    It is necesary to arrange the system to monitor the operational condition by various methods to achieve the safe operation of the engine.Based on the idea that the information on the engine condition can be obtained from its vibration signal, this paper carries out the experiment of the diesel engine of the actural ship.The vibration was measured a long time (7800hours) by mean of a vibration sensor on the cylinder jacket. The hand touch can not recognize the time change of the vibration, but the three-dimensional expression of the vibration data through the frequency analysis allows the good understading of the change of the vibration.The vibration is always changing if the vibration is observed on the long running hours of engine basis even in the stationary operation (engine revolution: 103rpm) of the diesel engine.We executed the statical analysis as one method to estimate the condition of engine by the information from the vibration.
    All the data of vibration was recorded on a normal engine condition, as a result we couldn't examine on an abnormal engine condition.Thus, the vibration data of low engine revolution (30rpm) was used as the data of abnormal condition in this analysis.As the result of the analysis, it is found that the abnormal can be recognized from above mentioned engine condition.We succeeded to make the statical model which can diagnose a engine conditon.

    In order to prevent an accident of an engine. Various systems to watch engine condition is necessary. We reported it with our paper already about a diagnosis system to use a sound. This paper describes the system which abnormal condition of engine is diagnosed by its vibration.
    Abnormal condition of the engine because of vibration was made to occur as being artificial in crankcase of engine. The vibration occurs, when connectingrod-large-end comes in contact with the thin metal board that was attached as taking it inside crankcase. The vibration was detected by means of a vibration sensor on the surface of engine frame. A statistical analysis was done against the spectral data of vibration signal. and a detection of an abnormal condition was enforced.
    It was proved its result. to be able to detect an abnormal condition to make occur inside crankcase, as we used the diagnosis method by means of vibration. However, as a distance with the vibration soruce and the sensor gets long, it gets difficult to detect an abnormal condition.
    It is necessary to advanced a research further about this unsettled probrem at issue.

    The reliability of the main engine must be extremely high in order to ensure the safe navigation of ships. This paper describes the construction of monitoring system capable of grasping the condition of the engine by using vibration signal of a diesel engine. The vibration was measured by sensors on cylinder jaket walls.
    The data of vibration were recorded on both normal and abnormal engine conditions. The following two kinds of conditions were used as an abnormal engine condition: running with fuel oil cut and the use of stopped-up fuel injection nozzle. Author executed visual judgment by means of the spectrum of the vibration in three-dimensional mannar and analyzed statistically as one method to estimate the condition of engine by the information from the vibration. It was found that one abnormal cylinder affected on vibration of other normal cylinders. Author succeeded to recognize abnormal engine condition correctly by mean of their information.

    If abnormalities of the marine engine are recognized in the early stage, the engine trouble and accident can be avoided. This paper describes the method of searching the position where the abnormality occurred on the engine by using the generating sound.
    A small-sized diesel engine was used as a test engine, and the experiment was made by generating the sounds which were regarded as an abnormal sound near the test engine under operation. The abnormal sound which had a sine-wave characteristic was generated with a loud speaker.
    The frequency of the abnormal sound was detected by using Maharanobis' generalized distance, and the abnormal position was searched by means of the frequency data. As a result, it was possible to search exactly the abnormal position by using the above method.

    For the purposes of engine maintenance, it is very important for engineers to collect acoustic information on abnormalities from the equipment running noise. However, in the engine room of a ship it is difficult to collect the acoustic information as the noise levels can be as high as 100 dB. In this study, the authors investigated the ability to listen to a specific sound against a disturbingly loud background noise. We found that combustion noise disturbed the detection of other sounds (non-combustion noise) . Consequently, we recorded shell noise by microphone, and transformed the sound to electronic data. We then instantaneously attenuated the combustion noise in the sound data and played it from a speaker. This method enabled reduction of listening disturbance (masking phenomenon) due to combustion noise. A hearing support system incorporating an algorithm for the above data processing was accordingly constructed to help distinguish acoustic information from background engine room noise.

    Many sweat damages were reported to have arisen due to solar radiation, during the bulk hay cube in dry container are in transit. Therefore it is important to know the distribution of temperature and humidity in the container. We carried out the experiment on the 1/3 model container, and measured the temperature and humidity. The top plate of model container was heated by the infrared bulb, and the way of heating was the periodic change whose range was from 73℃ to 24℃. The changes of temperature and humidity were discussed by the use of data obtained from the expeiment on the model container and the solution of simultaneous equations of heat and moisture, basing on one dimensional theory. The calculated values of temperature and humidity were in good agreement with the experimental ones. Using this simulation program, the calculation was made for the case when the adiabatic board was placed underneath the top plate of container. As the result, the board was found effective for the protection of sweat damage of cargo.

    Safe operation of a ship engine plant is maintained using a continuous monitoring system and periodic inspection and maintenance undertaken several times daily. When monitoring and maintenance work are executed to judge the state of equipment, an operator uses data from measurement instruments and detects the operating sound of an engine and the hammering sounds from contact using a testing hammer.
    The hammering inspection using the testing hammer, which is a general check method in routine maintenance work, is used not only for marine engines but also for various machines on land. In those machines, to prevent accidents, checking before engine starting is performed routinely, but many accidents caused by loose bolts and similar malfunctions are reported.
    For this study, an experiment was performed while the fastening power of bolts in the connecting rod was variously changed. Sounds generated when bolts are hit with the testing hammer were recorded at that time. An operator heard the hammering sound. The means by which the operator judged the fastening power by the hammering sound were investigated using a questionnaire. In addition, the hammering sound was made into data, and calculation of the fastening power was assessed using statistical analysis based on the above data. Consequently, a multiple regression formula with high accuracy was obtained for particular bolts used for this experiment. Results clarified that the fastening power can be estimated from the hammering sound.

    In order to examine whether a nitro group in the furan ring of 3, 4-diphenylfuran derivatives is required for their antibacterial activity, 5-nitro-3, 4-bis (4-substituted phenyl)-2-furaldehydes (IV and XII) and their derivatives were synthesized, 5-Nitro-3, 4-diphenyl-2-furaldehyde (IV) was synthesized from 3, 4-diphenyl-2-furaldehyde (I), via 3, 4-diphenyl-2-(1, 3-dioxolan-2-yl) furan (VII), acetine intermediate, 5-nitro-3, 4-diphenyl-2-(1, 3-dioxo1an-2-yl)-2-acetoxy-2, 5-dihydrofuran (VIII), and 5-nitro-3, 4-diphenyl-2-(1, 3-dioxolan-2-yl) furan (IX). Similarly, 5-nitro-3, 4-bis (4-methoxyphenyl)-2-furaldehyde (XII) was synthesized but its acetine intermediate could not be isolated. Antibacterial tests of these compounds showed them to be practically ineffective.

    Optical resolution of 3-piperidino-1, 1-di (2-thienyl)-1-butene hydrochloride and hydrobromide, which had interesting pharmacological properties, was carried out by the preferential recrystallization method, because these could not be resolved by a method for diastereomers. Thus, specific rotation of these isomers was found to be [α]31.5D ±117.8° in ethanol for isomers of hydrochloride and [α]13D ±127.4° in chloroform for those of hydrobromide. Moreover, it was recognized that the racemic modifications of these salts were racemic mixtures and not racemic compounds, by the investigation of the melting point-composition diagrams and infrared absorption spectra.

    3-(5-Nitro-2-thienyl) acrylic acid was synthesized in good yield by direct nitration of 3-(2-thienyl) acrylic acid obtained from 2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde without proceeding through 5-nitro-2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde diacetate. By condensation of the acid with various amines, alcohols or phenols, its amide and ester derivatives were prepared. 2-Bromo-3-(5-nitro-2-thienyl) acrylic acid esters were also obtained by bromination of the corresponding esters.
    Antibacterial activity of these compounds was tested on some bacteria in vitro.

    Japan depends on imports for most of agricultural products, which includes not only luxury foods but also essential ones such as wheat and soybeans. The cargo-container transportation plays an important role for the importation, but the sweat damages that occur during rapid cooling processes has been a serious problem. We made the mechanism of occurrence of the sweat damages clear by means of experiments and simulation on the containers loaded soybean, and suggested the use of the chemical or physical adsorption type silica gels, the desiccant, for a prevention of the sweat damages. However, the usage of the large amount of silica gel would be unfavorable in the cost, considered in the viewpoint of the practicality. In this paper, we investigated the reduction of the need of silica gel by partially covering the cargos with a sheet of aluminum. Only covering 55% of the cargo surface with a sheet of aluminum reduced the need of silica gel to one-tenth of the amount without covering. This result indicate that the cost for use of a silica gel and an aluminum sheet would be comparable to that for the commercial tool,

    This paper describes the method to detect the abnormal engine condition by means of an algorithm of the neural network, which is modeled upon information processing capability of the operater.
    The 4-cycle diesel engine is used in this experimental study. As for kinds of engine abnormalities, the leak of the gas from the exhaust pipe and the abnormal combustion depending on F.O. cut are taken as an example.
    The neural network is composed of the units and the weights which link between units. When the engine is operated by the normal condition, the spectrum data of the radiation sounds from the engine are put in the input layer in the neural network. By learning those data, the weights are formed between units. We judge whether the engine is the normal condigion by using this neural network. Under the normal condition, the correct recognition rate is almost 80% or over both the exhaust leak experiment and the fuel cut experiment. On the other, in case of the abnormal condition, the correct recognition rate is 20% or less in two kinds of experiments. For the results mentioned above, this method using the neural network could satisfactory detect two kinds of abnormal condition.

    If direction of horn-signal can be detected, it would be very useful for the safety navigation. The signal which was generated by a ship (Horn-ship) was picked by three microphones placed on the compass deck of another ship (Measurement ship). A series of experiments were carried out for various distance between two ships in the range from 600 to 2000m. In this system, the signal was digitalized with an A/D converter and sent to the microcomputer, and the direction was detected using these data. The error was less than ±15[deg], but the direction could not be detected, when SPL (sound pressure level) of horn-signal was about 50dB.

    Cephacetrile (以下CECと略す)は, スイスCiba-Geigy社で合成された半合成Cephalosporin系抗生物質で, 下記の化学構造をもつ。
    CECは, 既存のCephalosporin系抗生物質と同様, 広範囲の抗菌力をもち, その作用は殺菌的である。かつ, その毒性は少なく, 特に腎毒性は極めて軽微と報告されている1, 2)。
    著者らは, さきに, 臨床材料から分離した起炎性の明確な肺炎球菌26株を用いた基礎的研究で, CECのこれら菌株に対する最小発育阻止濃度(以下MIC)がすべて1.56μg/ml以下で, 半数の13株に対しては0.05μg/ml以下であり, その分布はCefazolin(以下CEZ)のMIC分布とほぼ等しいこと, また, CECのラットにおける臓器移行の検討では, 腎に次いで肺によく移行すること, さらに非盲検臨床検討において呼吸器感染症に対する治療成績がすぐれていることを明らかにして報告した3, 4)。
    今回我々は, この研究を一歩進め, 本剤CECの細菌性肺炎および肺化膿症に対する臨床上の有用性, すなわち臨床効果と副作用をCEZと比較して評価するために, 二重盲検法による比較試験をおこなつたので, その成績を報告する。CEZは, 細菌性肺炎などの呼吸器感染症に繁用されており, 上記の我々の研究結果からも, CECを臨床的に評価するさいの対照薬として適切なものと考えた。
    本研究は, 表記20施設の共同研究としておこない, コントローラーは, 東邦大学・桑原章吾教授と, コントローラー委員会委員・帝京大学・清水直容教授とに依頼し, 両剤およびその包装の識別不能性と含量の確認, 無作為わりつけとわりつけ表の保管および開封, 開封前後のデータの管理, 集計・解析など, 試験全体としての公平性の吟味を委嘱した。

    This paper discribes the dynamic pressures caused by the liquid motion in partially filled moving model tank. Through the experiments, the pressure at the tank top, the velocity when the water surface collided with the tank top and the degrees of angle θ made between the water surface and the tank top were measured. Since the measured pressures are greatly affected by the degrees of angle, the pressures are thereafter replaced by K, which is defined as the pressure coefficient P=KV^2/2g, which represents the magnitude of the impulsive pressure. At the angle θ less than 15°the value of K is large, while K takes on small value when exceeds 20°. At larger excitation amplitudes, where the sloshing phenomena becomes more violent, the rising velocity of the water surface increases. As the result of the increase, extremely high impact pressures are hard to occur on the tank top due to foam contained in the water.

    As some thiophene derivatives have interesting pharmacological action, 2-aminoethyl 3, 3-diaryl-3-hydroxypropanoates and 2-aminoethyl 3, 3-diaryl-2-propenoates having thiophene ring were synthesized. Esterification of3, 3-diaryl-3-hydroxypropanoic acids, prepared by the Reformatsky reaction of diaryl ketones, and 3, 3-diaryl-2-propenoic acid prepared by dehydration of these hydroxypropanoic acid gave aminoethyl esters of the corresponding acids.
