    Within-tree variations, whole-tree values and the representative heights for the whole tree value of basic density, and contents of wood components per volume were analysed for two trees of Eucalyptus camaldulensis and
    E
    . globulus
    respectively, grown at the seed orchard in Western Australia to do quality breeding.
    Within-tree variation of
    E
    . camaldulensis
    was rather uniform as 500±40, 532 ±34 kg/

    , but that of

    . globulus
    was large as 595 ± 69, 616 ± 79 kg/

    and the basic density was higher in bark side and upper part in the trunk, to be expected to have higher pulp productivity.

    A structure analysis of
    Ti5Si3D0.9
    has been carried out to determine the deuterium trap sites by neutron powder diffraction with the Rietveld profile analysis. It is revealed that the deuterium atoms are located at octahedral (
    2b
    ) sites surrounded by six Ti atoms in the crystal structure of
    Ti5Si3D0.9
    , space group P63/mcm. Local vibration spectra of hydrogen in
    Ti5Si3H0.83
    measured by neutron inelastic scattering support this result; the energy eigenvalue of the primary vibration mode is found at 7.53 kJ/mol (78 meV). The hole radius and the spring constant of the Ti-H(D) bond are discussed.

    The EISCAT Svalbard Radar (ESR) has been used to obtain ion velocities in the lower thermosphere. By using beam swinging and assuming homogeneity and stationarity of the plasma, first approximations to the electric field have been deduced, and thus the thermospheric neutral wind has been estimated. From these derived parameters, we have estimated the gradient Richardson Number. Although many assumptions must be made, there is an indication that electrodynamics is able to contribute to enhancement or even production of neutral-air turbulence in the lower thermosphere. Finally, we outline a proposal for an analogy to the Reynolds Number, but reflecting the relative importance's of the contribution of ion-drag to the neutral dynamics and the kinematic viscosity.

    Background

    The differences in conditions of enteric-coated acid-labile drug release and absorption between healthy subjects in bioequivalence studies and gastrointestinal patients in clinical practice can lead to significant differences in gastric stability of original PPIs and generics. Thus, pathologic duodenogastric reflux (PDGR) and the pH increasing within PPIs administration still remain unaccounted for.

    Methods

    Two-stage modified comparative dissolution testing of original omeprazole (OO) and four generics (G1;2;

    ;4) was performed. At first, we moved drugs from solution with pH 1.2 (1.2±

    .05) to pH 7.

    was examined from serum lipid and six constituents of thoracic aorta.
    A total of 16 male rabbits of 38 months, including 8 with the Mcce-

    (M group), 4 with cholesterol (C group) and 4 with Mace-

    plus cholesterol (MC group) were used. to produce arterosclerosis cholesterol was orally given at 1g to the C and MC group. To the M and MC groups Mace-

    was given at 500mg/day. Sixteen weeks later referring to all the rabbits, total cholesterol (T. CHO), triglyceride (TRIG), β-lipoprotein (β-LIPO), HDL-cholesterol (HDL), 4 in total of serum lipids, were measured. Furthermore, all the rabbits were killed and constituents media of thoracic aorta were stained and observed histochemically, i.

    The aim of the present study was to evaluate the predation efficacy of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus on multidrug-resistant (MDR) or extensive drug resistant (XDR) gram-negative pathogens and their corresponding biofilms. In this study, we examined the ability of

    . bacteriovorus to prey on MDR and XDR gram-negative clinical bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii. Results showed that

    . bacteriovorus
    was able to prey on all planktonic cultures, among which the most efficient predation was observed for drug-resistant
    E
    . coli
    , with a

    .11 log10 reduction in viability. Furthermore,

    demonstrated promising efficacy in preventing biofilm formation and dispersing the established biofilm. Reductions in biofilm formation of

    Choke disease fungus Epichloe typhina is associated with resistance to leaf spot disease in timothy plants (Phleum pratense). We have proposed the hypothesis that this resistance is caused by antifungal compounds existing in infected plants. We investigated the fungitoxic constituents of the stromata of

    . typhina. Seventy-eight compounds were isolated, including twenty novel sesquiterpenoids chokols (1,2,7-17,19-21,23-26), five novel oxygenated fatty acids(27-31), gamahonolide A(34) and

    (37), gamahorin(38) and non-fungitoxic chokorin(71) and an anthrasteroid(80). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods. The absolute configuration of chokol

    . typhina. Pinoresinol(60) was transformed into C6 norlignan(59) and α-ribofuranoside(87). Diosmetin(73) was transformed into 7-O-α-ribofuranoside(88). Antifungal activities of the isolated compounds were investigated.

    The applicability of a method for predicting 'bearing capacity increase'in reinforced sandy ground was examined using tests performed under various test conditions. It was found that the present method predicted, with reasonable accuracy, the bearing capacity increase in sandy ground, reinforced with stiff reinforcement. This method may not be applicable for sandy ground reinforced with extensible reinforcement due to the unsuccessful formation of a semirigid zone under the footing. An investigation into the settlement of a footing on reinforced sandy ground, at ultimate footing load condition, suggested that the settlement of footing for reaching peak footing load may be correlated to the 'deep-footing'and the 'wide-slab'mechanisms. That is, the ultimate settlement ratio between reinforced and unreinforced model sandy ground, SRf, may be linearly correlated to 'BCRD'and 'BCRs', which represent 'deep-footing' and 'wide-slab'effects, respectively, on the ultimate bearing capacity increase in reinforced sandy ground.

    Background: Oxidative stress, the imbalance between pro- and antioxidants, has been implicated in the etiology and pathophysiology of the incidence and mortality of many diseases. We aim to investigate the relations of dietary intakes of vitamin C and

    and main carotenoids with all-cause mortality in Japanese men and women.

    Methods: The Japan Collaborative Cohort Study for Evaluation of Cancer Risk had

    ,795 men and 35,539 women, aged 40–79 years at baseline (1988–1990), who completed a valid food frequency questionnaire and were followed up to the end of 2009.

The joint effect of any two of these highly correlated micronutrients showed significant 12–17% reductions in risk in the high-intake group compared with the low-intake group in women. These significant associations were also observed in the highest quintile intakes of vitamin C, vitamin

    Conclusions: Higher dietary intakes of antioxidant vitamins may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality in middle-aged Japanese women, especially female non-smokers.
