Traditional roof tile named Sekishu-gawara is one of the most important local industry in Shimane prefecture. This study aims to grasp the activity of development and creation of Sekishu-gawara industry. This study was based on the data taken from the interviews with some manufacturers ofroof tile and questionnaires to the manulfacturers and users of roof tile. As a result, the authors define two viewpoints of development : (1) eagerness of high quality to enhance the pride of manufactures, (2) programs to comply with the abundant experience on the roof tile and roof tile industry as a part ofregional life-styles. In order to accomplish these development, the authors suggest several examples based on the concept of "enjoy one's life with rooftile."
