Sn2Ti2O7 nanopowders with a single pyrochlore phase were prepared under mild conditions by a microwave assisted solvothermal method, and characterized in detail by TG-DTA, XRD, TEM, etc. The optimum reaction condition for the formation of Sn2Ti2O7 nanopowder was determined. The powders were sintered by a hydrothermal hot-pressing method. Single phase SnTiO4 could be obtained at lower temperature using Sn2Ti2O7 precursor. Dielectric and piezoelectric properties for both Sn2Ti2O7 and SnTiO4 were investigated in detail.
