In order to build a mutually beneficial relationship with Asian countries in the long term, it is desirable to strengthen and support local subsidiary companies. This is why collaborations must be set up centered on local subsidiary company for research and development in conjunction with local universities and research institutions. It is also effective to have personnel exchange between Japanese companies and local research institutions for long-term research based on clear target. Potential exists in the following four areas for technical research and development collaborations with Asian countries. (1) Improve the efficacy of Asia as a global base for mass production; (2) Create new business that meets the needs of Asia; (3) Create environmentally friendly business; (4) Common and basic technologies that will support industrial activities.
