Jamology is a new scientific and engineering research, which deals with flow and jam of every self-driven particle in the world. One of the most famous models used in Jamology is Cellular Automaton (CA), where time, space, and state are discrete. In this paper, we introduce the essence and the contribution of CA models in Jamology. Traffic CA models succeed to reproduce meta-stable state, which is an essential phenomenon in real traffic, and show some results which can be applied to ease congestion at junctions and weaving sections. Besides, collaboration of CA and Queueing theory creates a new queueing model which gives us mathematically-exact solution useful for application. Furthermore, two dimensional CA models for pedestrians are extended in many ways to study how the specific characteristics of pedestrians affect on their flow. In the last section of the paper, we also discuss the scope of application of CA models.

The chemotaxis-diffusion growth system in a rectangular domain is studied. We study the system from a point of view of pattern formation phenomena. The linear analysis tells us that a trivial solution (spatially uniform solution) is destabilized if the chemotaxis coefficient is large. And it is possible to choice a set of parameters such that three modes which compose a hexagonal pattern are destabilized simultaneously. Around this critical point, we analyze the chemotaxis system based on the center manifold theory. As a result, the normal form on the center manifold is obtained. Using the normal form, we discuss the existence and stabilities of a regular hexagonal pattern in the chemotaxis system.

This paper concerns recent studies on nonlinear conjugate gradient methods for solving unconstrained optimization problems. Especially, we focus on two types of conjugate gradient methods. The first one is based on secant conditions, which is originally studied by Dai and Liao (2001), and after that, some researchers proposed the methods based on other secant conditions. The second one generates descent search directions independently of line searches.
