Statistical decision models have been used successfully in the past to consider the design problem of safety monitoring system. The design problem aims to decide a global optimization of a distributed sensor detection system. The Baysian models are effective but not adequate for analyzing uncertainty in the limits of sensors so that two models are proposed. 1. The first probabilistic model aims to reduce the uncertainty by a combination of two types of sensors that have different thresholds, the SP sensor and the FW sensor. 2. The other is a model based on Dempster-Shafer theory that includes probability theory as a special case. This model easily expresses uncertain information, and in the model the optimal combination rule for coordinating contradicted information is proposed. The latter model is a general state-action model so that it is expected to utilize for the mathematical analysis of human-machine system.

The possibility of chaos presents special interest for forecasting chaotic time series data. The present paper investigates the non-linear forecasting technique in the context of deterministic chaos using both artificial and financial data. The representation of temporal knowledge and time correlation in multilayer neural networks presents a continuous challenge to researchers in the field of artificial neural networks. A feed-back neural network proposed previously is capable of detecting a time structure embodied in time-series data. It is found for some financial data that the feed-back neural network performs better than the linear autoregressive model. This result indicates efficiency of the technique based on deterministic chaos.

The theory of grain boundary structure is reviewed from the mathematical point of view. High-order twins are mathematically introduced and developed up to the 4th order twins in the case of cubic crystals. The coincidence-site lattice, 0-lattice and DSC lattice are considered with emphasis on their algebraic aspects. Some applications of high-order twins and coincidence-site boundaries are discussed to point out these importance in the field of material sciences and industries.
