This paper proposes a video retrieval method that uses outline and color to rapidly retrieve desired images from video databases. The user inputs outline and color information to a client computer, which forwards them to a video database server. The outline and color information are used to extract the most closely matched video sequences.

In this paper, we propose a novel categorization of web images into various categories based on their text and image data, and propose new applications of the categorization. We define nine categories of images used in WWW and make a tree structure for the categorization and apply SVM to each stage of the categorization. We conduct experiments to categorize a large amount of web images collected from chosen 130 web sites of listed companies of Japan and they are well categorized with 90 % precision. We also show new applications by using the image categories to help users to navigate web pages.

A two-dimensional integrated magnetic sensor was designed and fabricated by standard 0.35μm CMOS process. A type of magnetic sensor is Hall sensor using inversion layer under gate oxide of MOSFET. Hall voltage from sensors is read by using the read-out circuit of a CMOS image sensor. Sensor chip was fabricated by ROHM 0.35μm CMOS process. 64x64 Hall sensors are arrayed. Size of "one pixel" is 40 μm^□, and chip size is 4.9mm^〓. From the result, magnet position can be detected by fabricated sensor. The magnetic sensor using the inversion layer of MOSFET is useful for positioning system, but its noise characteristics should be improved.

In addition, the simulation of the propagating standing wave is performed. As a result, it is confirmed the variation of the receiving level can be diminished when both patch and slot simultaneously receive the signal. Furthermore, the validity of the proposed antenna is verified by numerical simulations based on the FDTD method.

Previously we have presented a PDE-hased method for image sharpening. Our method is based on the coupled nonlinear diffusion process equipped with a nonlinear diffusion term, a fidelity term and a peaking term, and it can sharpen blurred edges without increasing the noise visibility. However, our method has some problems: the degradation of complex image structures and so on. This paper presents an approach to solve the problems. As the preprocess of our method, we introduce a step to classify each pixel into two categories on the basis of mid-scale image features contained in the gradient field of an image. The classification results are then utilized to preset the parameters characterizing our method, spatially-varyingly. The spatially varying parameter presetting enables our method to achieve the preservation of complex image structures and the selective sharpening of blurred edges.

Previously we have presented a selective image sharpening method based on the coupled nonlinear diffusion process equipped with a nonlinear diffusion term, a fidelity term and an isotropic peaking term. and it can sharpen blurred edges without increasing the noise visibility. This paper extends our method to removal of image blurs due to image motion. The motion blur is not only shift-variant but also anisotropic. To adapt our method for the motion de-blurring, we replace the isotropic peaking term of our method, with the anisotropic peaking term steered in the direction of image motion, and we devise its discrete calculus to adapt itself to motion orientation. By experiments using a test image sequence containing artificial motion blurs, we quantitatively evaluate sharpening performance. Our method using the ansotropic peaking term achieves the better performance than our prototypal method using the isotropic peaking term. and is robust to errors in motion orientation
