How to accept and teach all sorts of students and how to teach them are the urgent and the most difficult problems for universities, and it seems due to their universalization. They are doing some trials to find solutions, aiming to improve the teaching in universities. In my university, reorganization of curriculums, openness of sylabus, supplementary lessons, self-evaluation and self-assessment of teaching are having been attempted, and faculty development would be its next step. Our trials to find a clue to improve our teaching are as follows: recording our teaching on video tapes, committing it to writing (protocol), and analysing our teaching activities in connection with the evaluation of teaching by students.

This research was conducted as basic research to develop Japanese multimedia teaching materials for use on the Internet. This research verified the effects of different types of images used in multimedia teaching materials on the story understanding and story reproduction ability of Japanese language learners based on a Japanese fairy tale. As a result of the experiment conducted with 58 elementary Japanese language learners, images were shown to promote both story understanding and story reproduction. In terms of story understanding, dynamic pictures were not always more effective than still pictures with designated standards; it was more effective to present important images selected from the story development. In terms of story reproduction, however, dynamic pictures were more effective than still pictures. Based on these results, when creating teaching materials for use on the Internet, it is essential to determine the type of images to be incorporated based on the objectives of the teaching materials.

This study was aimed at the accessibility and utilization of the information resources available in the University. The photographic image resource of the murals in Saint-Savin Church, stored in Tokai University, were used as an example of effective utilization of historically significant images for educational purposes. The high-definition digital recording of the photograph resource was executed as a public service project by the National Institute of Multimedia Education, and the data made available to the public through the Internet. The purpose of producing the CD-ROM was to improve the study of the murals, including the study and comparison of the murals' styles, and determining the present condition and need for restoration of the murals. Furthermore, it was produced to provide study material on a certain subject, as well as to provide an effective search capability for utilizing it, and to explore the potential for using such study materials in various fields such as multimedia education. This report also provides a description of the utilization of the CD-ROM as a resource for the Audio-Visual Education class. Watching and listening to the CD-ROM before their exercises helped the students understand the value of improving their basic/advanced abilities to utilize information.

In order to investigate the state-of-the-arts of "The Voyage of the Mimi" in 1998, 15 years after its completion, Web searches were conducted. As the results, it was found that (1) the Mimi was still available in the PBS's television program list; (2) the Mimi was converted to a CD-ROM based package that is commercially available through a firm, and it was highly recognized; (3) Non-profit Mimi foundation is keeping the Mimi that has been used in various educational activities; (4) Cooperative learning activities have been initiated by the Mimi users via Internet. Factors related to long-life utilizations of an educational television program, as well as its extensions to multimedia environments were discussed.

In this study I made a proposal that it is important for TV program analysis to be focused on the structure of them. For the structural analysis, it is need to consider a TV program as a system which is constructed from each scenes. Then I analyzed the NHK science programs focusing on their structure for case study. As a result of analysis, "tree-structure" and "network-structure" were founded in them. Through interview of the producers who have made TV programs, it is suggested that each structure is related to the program's aim. Further more I conducted a trial survey to the several university students in order to acquire the feature of "network-structure", for this structure has not clarified enough its merit or effect. The subjects were several university students. As a result of the research, it is suggested that "network-structure" brings out the various respond and a lot of questions from the viewers.
