In recent years, several reports have been made on impedance measurement of paint films to determine the degree of deterioration. This measurement, however, has been limited to the indoor test because of a lack of a proper apparatus for impedance measurement to be applied to steel structures.
The authors have manufactured for trial a portable, transistorized and self-powered apparatus, using a particular electrode made of aluminium foil with electrolyte in the form of paste. The electrode can be attached to such places on structures as the vertical surface, corner, edge, pipe, etc.
This apparatus has proved useful for the impedance measurement of paint films on steel structures.
