Colors and color names are often used as information in ordinary communications. However, because young

children with color deficiency can not understand the concept of color vision, they would be at a loss in the

communication using color names. In order to support color deficient young children, their parents or nursery

teachers have to discover young children’s color deficiency, and then have to take care of them. Here, in this

study, we analyzed confusing colors of commercial crayons to discover young children’s color deficiency from the

viewpoint of color science. Moreover, we introduced a new index, that is called the‘index of confusing color pair’,

to indicate the tendency of confusing paired colors and ranked the confusing colors of the crayons on the basis

of the index. Finally, we discussed that the confusion of colors with the index of 0.6 or above in young children’s

crayons would imply color deficiency possibility.
