This paper aims to improve the classes required by the course of study from a new perspective in social studies education research.
Social studies education research has contributed to the creation of theory and practice; however, recently, social studies education practices have strongly tended to structure classes according to the syllabus prepared by textbook companies based on the course of study, creating a gap between theory and practice. The creation of theory and practice in social studies education research is essential, but it is not easy. To close the gap between research and practice, it is necessary to emphasize “practice based on the course of study” and develop new strategies to bring about improvement in teaching.
Therefore, I have developed a new method of conducting classes as per the goals of the course by using the social studies education research and changing the target and viewpoint of Why-Questions. As an example, I used the case of a sixth-grade history course to verify the effectiveness of this strategy through interviews based on classroom practices. To further develop social studies education research, it may be necessary to focus on creating a research area that utilizes social studies education research to enhance social studies classes.
