This report deals with relation between Amida Pure Land picture painted on the HOODO reredos and the BYODO-IN garden of the HEIAN period. Through the study, I pointed out between SUHAMA style pond depiction of Amida Pure Land picture painted on the HOODO reredos and JODO garden style on BYODO-IN garden of the HEIAN period releated to completion of SINDEN-ZUKURIgarden style.
This is the study about the features of historical Japanese gardens located in Koujiro region, Nagasaki prefecture, through actual survey and field investigation. The chief feature is way of dragging water into ponds from the waterway pararelled the site of the garden. There are mainly two types in the shapes of ponds. The percentage of water area in the garden site is from 13 to 14 per cent in average. The garden type is mostly small garden mainly aim at appreciation which has fixed view point for ponds. Trees in the garden are mainly evergreen and low trees.
