This study aims to clear the recent decrease and to look into its factors at Matsushiro-machi in Nagano city, where many water courses and garden ponds are left from Edo period. The research on them has been down 5 times from 1981, and we compared these results. About the watercourses, Sensuiro (watercourse connecting garden pond and garden pond) is mainly lost, particularly north area at Daikan-cho, north area at Baba-cho, and east and south area at Omoteshiba-cho. But Kawa (watercourse flowing along the street) doesn’t change and Segi (watercourse flowing through the back of the residence) isn’t lost. The framework of the watercourses is left. And about the garden ponds, 45% of them have been lost. The residential land development and the lack of water cause these decreases in particular. To preserve them, it is important that proprietor, local resident and local government cooperate and work out a countermeasure.

The purpose of this study is to uncover about the character of two buildings in the Shiodome site.Shiodome site is a Daimyo’s Residence in Edo period. It had been dug from 1998 to 2006.Two buildings are discovered in the garden. In this study, I consider about the character of two buildings, It was built for safekeeping of valuables .
Searching the records of same plan, I confirmed Momijiyama Library in the Edo-jo Castle, Gobunko(it means of library)in Ashikaga School in Tochigi as similar examples. Recent excavations indicate Gobunko inside of a garden in OUCHI yakata (residence of the OUCHI clan) period of warring states in Yamaguti .
On the other hand,In kyu-Furukawa Garden built in Taisho period, library was built in the wooded area, apart from a residence .
I think that 「bunko」 was built in the garden because to protect from fire contain books, other materials and tresures in order .
We needs discussion various students for Explanation of excavation.
