JOURNAL FREE ACCESSSaga’in was the detached palace of Emperor Saga, since he was the Crown prince. Jyunna’in was the palace of the Crown Prince Otomo (he was later to become Emperor Jyunna), after that, which was the detached palace of Emperor Jyunna. They were built at the beginning of Heian period (9th century).
The study is aimed to give more consideration to two gardens from a garden historical perspective, by collecting and analyzing the Chinese poems about them written mainly under the rule of Emperor Saga. As the result, Saga’in had been constructed by large-scale and positive works, and created a pure and unsullied land. Jyunna’in was built at Ukyo^, this place was a marshy ground location. It had been created a gaeden landscape of wabi. Two gardens differ in utilization and design. But, they have something in common with the sense of Yamazato.View full abstractDownload PDF (3450K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThis article presents the transfer of an historical garden from Myōren-ji Gyokuryū-in temple in Kyoto to Tōshōdai-ji Higashimuro temple in Nara by Mori Osamu (1908-1985), a Japanese garden historian and creator. The garden transfer resulted in the creation of a new garden by Mori affecting its intrinsic value. However, the fact that historical documents have been left and that the stones and the image of the original garden survives in the new place is considered to be significant.View full abstractDownload PDF (12769K)
