We developed the Communication Skill Scale for Home Visiting Staff (CHVS), consisting of two subscales: communication skills for providing home care (CHVS-U); and communication skills for cooperating with coworkers and allied health professionals (CHVS-C). We selected preliminary items for the CHVS from a survey and semi-structured interviews with randomly selected home visiting staffs (N=181) who responded to questions. Factor analysis of their responses using the maximum likelihood method and Promax rotation extracted 36 items and three underlying dimensions of each subscale. The dimensions of the CHVS-U included “Acceptance of users,” “Understanding users,” and “Empathetic attitudes,” and in the CHVS-C, “Collaborative attitude,” “Information sharing,” and “Teamwork.” The test of reliabilities and Good-Poor analysis indicated the adequate reliability of the CHVS (CHVS-U: α=.97, CHVS-C: α=.96). Moreover, the inter-rater reliability using intra-class correlation coefficients showed high agreement. The internal consistencies of the factors were significantly associated with the ENDCOREs for assessing general communication skills, confirming the scale’s criterion-related validity. The CHVS showed preliminary evidence of reliability and validity. Investigating factors determining communication abilities of home visiting staff is expected to have practical uses in the future.

We developed the Quality of Life Scale for Pregnant Women (QOLPW). Data of 351 women (M_age=32.27 year; SD=4.31) in 14th to 40th weeks of pregnancy were collected from a cohort study in Ibaraki City and a pregnant women’s Quality of Life survey conducted throughout Japan. The demographic variables of the participants, QOL, and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scores of the two studies were analyzed. Factor analysis indicated five factors: “Psychological Health,” “Physical Health,” “Social Relationships,” “Life Environment,” and “Social Welfare Environment.” Moreover, the QOLPW scale and its sub-scales had good internal consistency and construct validity.

This study exploratorily and qualitatively classified problems perceived in everyday lives by people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in remission and their coping strategies, A free-form survey was conducted with IBD patients in remission who participated in IBD patient’ associations in Japan. Discussions with health psychology, nursing, and medical researchers, classification according to the KJ method, and conducting quantification theory type III classified IBD patients’ problems into five groups. Moreover, the results of cluster analysis using category scores also identified five categories. We have discussed the programs and coping strategies for each group and future issues.

This literature review examined existing health promotion programs targeted at musicians and music students, to prevent physical and mental health issues related to playing music. Through a search of the databases “Web of Science”, “PubMed”, “PsychINFO”, “Scopus” and “ScienceDirect”, we identified 11 relevant studies. We gathered information about the intervention contents, format, outcome measures, limitations and directions for future studies from the studies selected. The findings indicated the potential benefits of implementing health promotion programs targeting musicians, noting limitations such as poor uptake, poor adherence, and difficulties in measuring long-term effects. Moreover, variations in the content, format, and outcome measures of the studies made it challenging to determine the effectiveness of specific components of each intervention program. We made suggestions to improve program uptake and adherence, such as targeting health literacy and incorporating behavior change strategies, for future research.
