Two cats with psychogenic dermatosis differentiated from allergy were described. The first case, a 10-month-old, female Ragdoll presented with a 7 months history of licking on the whole body and hypersensitivity syndrome. Allergy was suspected, but elimination of variable allergens was not effective. Finally the dermatosis was improved with behavior modification and fluoxetine HCL suggesting a psychogenic etiology. The second case, a 4-year-old, spayed female DSH presented with one year history of atypical eosinophilic granuloma complex. At initial presentation, flea infestation and dermatitis were recognized, but flea control was not effective. Several allergies were suspected, and elimination diet was effective. However, symmetric alopecia was retained on the abdomen. Finally the dermatosis was improved with behavior modification and fluoxetine HCL suggesting a psychogenic etiology.
