In this particular study, observations were made of 227 metal frameworks constructed for 193 patients who desired metal framework removable partial dental prostheses. The subjects were selected from among the outpatients of Nihon University Dental Hospital who were treated during the five years from January, 1976 through December, 1980.
The results of the observations are as follows :
    1. According to sex, among the 193 patients with complete dentures, 78 (40.4%) were males and 115 (59.6%) were females. The number of females was 1.47 times as many.
    2. According to age, a sharp increase was observed in patients in their thirties and a peak was reached in patients in their fifties, followed by a decrease thereafter.
    3. According to both sex and age, females in their forties led the others with 37 (19.1%).
    4. In the frequency of denture construction, dentures for the lower jaw were 1.70 times as many as those for the upper jaw.
    5. Referring to the jaws, sex and age, the 28 dentures (12.3%) constructed for the lower jaw in female patients in their forties was the greatest number.
    6. According to Kennedy's classification, a gradual increase was seen from Class I to Class IV, and Classes I and II combined accounted for approximately 78% of the total, indicating that there are many cases of free end edentulousness.
    7. With respect to the yearly frequency of denture construction, 1977 was the highest whereas 1979 was the lowest.
