The relaxing effects of protease inhibitors, EACA, PAB and aprotinin on the Ach-contracture of ABRM of
Mytilus edulis were observed by measuring the half-relaxation time of Ach-contracture in comparison with the effects of serotonin and dopamine on it.
1. Serotonin and dopamine rapidly relaxed Ach-contracture of ABRM. These effects were dependent on the concentration of those two agents and consistent with those of other investigators.
2. EACA, PAB and aprotinin relaxed Ach-contracture of ABRM, and showed the lower potency as compared with serotonin and dopamine in relaxing action. These effects were dependent on the concentration of those agents by 10
-4 M, respectively.
The significance of the results obtained was also discussed in relation to protease, contractile elements and elements maintaining prolonged contraction induced by Ach in ABRM.
