Either tissue conditioner or zinc oxide and eugenol impression paste were used to protect bloody surfaces in sixteen patients who had undergone excision of epulis fissurata. The patients were examined clinically at seven, fourteen and twenty-one days, and histologically at seven and fourteen days. The tissue conditioner was observed to show greater biocompatibility.

Josamycin (JM) was given orally to 10 rats at a dose of 200 mg/kg. Serum samples were obtained at 60, 120, 180, and 240 minutes after oral administration and JM concentrations in serum were determined by both high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and a microbiological assay. Comparison of the JM concentrations in serum measured with HPLC and microbiological assay by regression analysis yielded a markedly high constant of inclination (Y=8.0719X-0.2995, r=0.9867, where Y is JM concentration obtained with microbiological assay and X is that obtained with HPLC; r is the regression coefficient). The difference indicated that most of the JM was metabolized and that the presence of antimicrobially active metabolites, deisovaleryl-JM being a main constituent which was also measured as JM, plays an important role in the microbiological assay. Thus, the microbiological assay might not be a suitable method for determination of the unchanged antibiotic if it is metabolized rapidly to produce antimicrobially active metabolites.

The authors have developed a new type of resilient denture liner which consists of LTV vinyl silicone rubber as a principal component. The product's features include good resilience against mucosal supporting tissues and excellent properties of adhesion to the denture base resin. A further advantage is that it does not deteriorate, even after years of use. This article describes the properties of the material, the directions for its use, and several clinical examples.

Six screen / film combinations were used to make density-matched panoramic radiographs of a tissue-equivalent phantom skull using the Philips Oralix Pan DC. The density of each radiograph was analyzed in eleven anatomic areas. The densities of the eleven anatomic areas ranged from 0.35 to 2.11. The radiographs were evaluated as to their diagnostic quality by twenty-three dental radiologists. The results demonstrated that the most appropriate screen/film selection in panoramic radiography using a direct-current generated x-ray tube was the 3M Trimax 4/8 screen/Kodak T-Mat G film system.
