The antibacterial efficacy of four endodontic medicaments was studied
in vitro. Calcium hydroxide (CALACEPT), camphorated parachlorophenol (CPCP), Cresophene, and 2% iodine-potassium iodide (IKI) were tested against four anaerobic microorganisms,
Streptococcus mutans, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, Porphyromonus gingivalis and
Fusobacterium nucleatum, for 10 or 15 min. IKI was effective only against
F. nucleatum and
P. gingivalis, and the others were effective against all four microorganisms.
