The use of digital image processing technologies is increasing rapidly year by year and leads to be easier for non-professionals to counterfeit security printings. Recently, reproduction protective lines are widely used in various securities as one of the anti-counterfeiting measures against the digital image processing technologies. From the view of combining anti-counterfeiting feature with aesthetic aspect and improving the latent image effect, we have proposed the divided lines method with latent image effect. However, more aesthetic and complicated design possibly leads to decrease its latent image effect. This paper demonstrates a method of providing suitable design for latent image effect to designers using the frequency analysis. Furthermore, the security printing lines comprising from the divided lines possess invisible high degree of order. Therefore, it can be deduced that those method involving the extraction of invisible high frequency component provide a medium in embedding information to printing lines without damaging aesthetic feature in geometrical printing lines.

This paper presents a new method of designing a dither matrix based on simulated annealing. An obtained dither matrix (halftone screen/mask) is appropriate for press printing. Because of several physical reasons, halftoning for press printing is more difficult than halftoning for electronic displays, or ink-jet printers. Even if stochastic dispersed-dot screening (so-called FM-screening) is one of the best solutions for halftoning, that is not appropriate for press printing. On the other hand, classical periodic clustered-dot screening (so-called AM-screening) is more important and is widely used even now. We recognize unfavorable quality of AM-screening, but we can not ignore its productive stability in printing section. The proposed halftone dither matrix has aperiodic clustered-dot pattern, and the size of cluster can be controlled by a weighting parameter of a cost function. We will obtain a dither matrix which consists of clustered-dots. Some characteristics of the design algorithm and halftoned images are investigated in detail. As a result, the fact that the obtained dither matrix is superior to AM-screen and comparable to FM-screen in visual quality, and the matrix is comparable to AM-screen and superior to FM-screen in press printability is confirmed. Application to an artistic screen and a blue-noise mask are also presented.

This teme, we have introduced the very rationaly standardized image technology, so called S-GIS (Super Golden Imaging Software), that is used to reproduce half-tone color printings. If we use the S-GIS technology, we all are able to reproduce hallf-tone color printings with easy feeling that have the fine qualities as we desired and planed. Withhout practical using S-GIS on jobs, it is very hard for you to recongnize the wonderfull technical effects of its technology.

It is rapidly becoming the standard to print digital Camera images onto printing paper, and the production of images in a fully digital environment is becoming more common as well. We developed “Color Genius DC” Software, whose is a superior setup engine that supports various RGB image input methods. We suggests the following three ideas for smoothing the degital camera images workflow. “Source RGB” & “Pre-Proofing” & “Software Scanners”.

The physical properties of cure films, prepared through UV- and/or thermally-induced polymerization, were studied as function of polymerization parameters such as exposure energy and reaction temperature. Residual monomer concentration after polymerization was determined by IR spectroscopy and adhesion properties of polymerized film for plastic seat was also measured. Though the monomer was polymerized rapidly by UV irradiation or thermal treatment, adhesive strength was increased at higher value of conversion. When the proportion of the conversion of monomer into polymer reached around at 75%, the adhesive strength of most cured samples rapidly increased.

The reaction properties of the styrene-acryl resin and polycarbodiimide in water based gravure ink were characterized by FTIR(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) and XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy). The reaction rate of the mixed resins was determined by the FTIR. The surface property of the mixed resins was investigated by the XPS. The uncross-linking carboxyl groups increased on the surface as it air dried, because the styrene-acryl resin migrated to the surface side during the drying process. It was determined that the linkage reaction of carbodiimide not only effected alkali-resistance, but the uncross-linking carboxyl groups on the surface layer also had a harmful influence upon alkali-resistance when air-dried.

The web offset printing has increased recently because of the fast printing speed, simulataneous printing on both-sides and work saving in later procedure. The fluting is the one of the problems in web offset printing. We studied factors affecting on the fluting of the coated paper, and to control the rate of shrinkage and compressive force. We finally succeeded in reducing fluting. We also found that the fluting occurred at the beginning of the drying process and possessed the shape at the end of the drying process based on obsevation of commercial scale of web offset printing press.

In conventional multicolor printing, mechanical dot gain plays an important role in tone rendering. This is predominant especially in high definition color printing since dot gain is enhanced correspondingly with the dot size per unit area. The objective of the study is to obtain an index to the mechanical dot gain prediction in printing. For this purpose the authors derived an equation from the parallel plate plastometer theory combining the dot gain with various factors for dot size, dot ink film thickness, ink viscosity, printing speed, and printing pressure. In addition, investigation on the validity of this equation was made using the published printing data. The predicted dot gain results, as compared with the dot gain values of 0.2∼0.3 experimentally obtained in halftone areas in actual printing, were found to be reasonable within a limiting range of 600 to 1000 lpi(line/1inchi).

A watermarking method on ordered-dither processed bi-level images is studied. The embedded data is detected by whether the number of black pixels in a dither matrix is odd or even, and data embedding is done by changing the level of the pixel of which threshold is located on the boundary of black and white in the matrix. From the picture quality evaluation result, density compensation by page is found to be better than that by the local area. Compared with the case of error diffusion processed images, the amount of undetectable embedding bits is found to be smaller.

Multi-layered recording using the high resolution performance of laser dye transfer is proposed to surpass the image quality of existing hardcopy technologies. In this recording method, the dye images are distributed in multi receiving layers. As a result of experiment, it is indicated that the optical density range of tone image is extended by increasing the number of receiving layers. For color printing, the image quality is greatly improved by transferring each color dye to each receiving layer successively. Furthermore, the pyramidal image sample shows a possibility of expression of solid feeling. By integrating these techniques of multi-layered recording, it is considered that a reality of hardcopy goes to next stage.

We started a study about Digital Halftone Screening Technology as new securities design. This technology is based on the PostScriptTM language. This technology arranged two kinds of images on the same plane equally and made it possible to get being perceivable or an invisible image. We named this technology “multi-image screen”. In this announcement, I report it about the anti-counterfeiting pinting products which is a low cost by process printing and introduce some trial products.

In the Internet which many and unspecified users use, the needs for receiving and transmitting contents safely and certainly are increasing, and copyright protection technology attracts attention. We have so far developed DRM system (SecureStarDRM) dealing with the multi-Security Policy using visible digital watermarking developed uniquely. This time, we stored right-related information and the consent conditions for distribution in the intellectual-property-rights database based on the content ID specification which Content ID Forum advocates, made the prototype system which controls the copyrights protection function developed so far according to this condition, and verified the function.

We conceived that TiO2 photocatalyst was applied to the patterning material. We developed liquid organic-inorganic composite materials of TiO2 and FluoroAlkylSilane, and made layer by coating this liquid on the substrate. This layer has low wettability for ink, but if ultraviolet rays was exposed this layer, the change of wettability is caused by redox reaction of TiO2 photocatalyst, this layer becomes to have high wettability for ink. Because hydroxy radical and super-oxide anion are generated by a redox action of TiO2 photocatalyst, and they decompose the FluoroAlkyl-chain on the layer. Instead of the FluoroAlkyl-chain, the Hydroxyl appears on the layer. If ultraviolet rays is exposed on this layer through the photomask, it is possible to make pattern featuring high and low wettability for ink on this layer. Moreover, we developed the method which manufactured the color filter from the combination this pattern formation technology with the ink jet technology.

Novel micro-patterning technique based on photolithography using photocatalytic activity mask with the capability of oxidized decomposition of organic substances was studied. Ultraviolet(UV) light was irradiated to an organic film on a substance through a TiO2-coated photomask under contact and proximity (gap ≤ 300 μm) conditions of the photomask to the organic film. A fluoride-containing oil-repellent film and an ultrathin polyelectrolyte complex film used in this study were prepared by spin coating and layer-by-layer adsorption technique, respectively. The surface of the former was converted from the oil-repellent state to the oil-philic state with 20 μm resolution due to photocatalytic decomposition of the surface layer of the film via UV irradiation(less than 1minute) through the mask. On the other hand, the latter one was etched effectively under an appropriate condition of the photocatalytic lithography.

A prepress process in the printing industry has a character like information industry, and makes information virtual by the digital technology. On the other hand, a printing process has a character like the manufacturing industry, and makes information real by the analog technology. The whole of the printing process has the character like manufacturing industry and the character like information industry. Printing industry must make the process that has two different characters one process with digital information. There is the biggest problem of the digital workflow in the printing process in changing virtual digital information into the real analog information. Database AMPAC is the database that collects digital workflow information and analog production information and can make use of information effectively.
