Recently, rules have been revised frequently in volleyball. Especially, the application of the rally point system changed the contents of the game greatly. Most research on volleyball was based on the side-out system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the score tendency in volleyball games. The game Samples of this study were composed of 152 sets (45 games) without the final sets in Women's World Cup 2003 volleyball games. The main results obtained were the followings: 1) In all the games, the score tendency was divided into five categories: 1-4, 5-8, 9-16. 17-21. and 23-25 points scored consecutively. The score category that occurred most frequently was the group 23-25, followed by the group 5-8 and the group 17-21. The group with the lowest rate of occurrence was the group 9.16, followed by the group 1-4 right after the sets started. 2) In the winning sets, the score tendency was divided into five categories: 1-3, 4-8, 9-15, 18-20. and 23-25 points scored consecutively. The score category that occurred most frequently was the group 23-25, followed by 18-20 and the group 1-3. The group with the lowest rate of occurrence was the group 9-15. followed by the group 1-3. 3) As for the lost sets, the score tendency was divided into six categories. But there was no outstanding ten dency in the score. The score category that occurred most frequently was the group 7-8, followed by 21-23 and the group 1-2. The group with the lowest rate of occurrence was the group 24-25, followed by the group 12-13 and the group 3-6.

The purpose of this research was to calculate the probability of winning a set in each score in volleyball game by rally point system. To achieve this purpose, following three procedures were taken. 1. All points in volleyball game was divided into the points of serving side and the points of serve receiving side, and those average point rates were calculated. 2. By the game simulation used those average point rates, the probability of winning a set in each score was calculated. 3. The values of actual victory probability in world cup '03 and '99 were compared with the values of simulation. The main results obtained were as follows: 1. The average side-out point rates in world cup '03 were 69.3%(men) and 64.9%(women), and those values were almost equal in world cup '99. 2. As the result of simulation, it developed that the probability of winning a set becomes definite as the game goes to end of set even if differences in points are same. 3. Actual probabilities of winning a set in world cup '03 and '99 showed similar tendencies to the values of simulation. Concretely, the team which have three points lead at the score 20 for male (or having a four point lead at the score 20 for female) gained a set at 90% or more probability. 4. The table of probability of winning a set by simulation can widely use in game make or game analysis as a standard of victory probability in each level.

My study shows the validity of 'step up rules' and 'small groups method for students taking a course of Volleyball I in OT university and a lot of information for investigating the educational contents in the teaching materials. 1) General educational evaluation by students gives a high grade in the item of cooperation, fruits of results, interest, and way of learning. 2) A written description of students' impressions shows a clear validity of 'step up rules' and 'small group method' especially to the beginners as the introduction of coaching volleyball. The students taking my course highly evaluate 'step up rules' and 'small group method', so they have a lot of satisfaction playing the game earlier than when I take a usual course without such a rule and a method. They can enjoy playing volleyball game and improve their skills. The target of a survey this time is all uni versity students, so they have a chance of playing volleyball in their junior high school and high school. Therefore, the step up rules that I make an experiment is not necessarily effective for all the target of an investigation. I would like to develop various new step up rules according to age, sex, physical fitness and skill levels.

The scouting program for volleyball that consisted of the serve receiving scout, the combination attack scout, and the digging scout was developed by Visual Basic. One scorer takes charge of one program, in a word, the opponent team is scouted by three scorers. In addition to the skill analysis, the serve receiving position, the combination attack position, and the defense form can be analyzed by using the positional data obtained by digi. tizing coordinates. Because the program operation is mostly executed to analyze by clicking the mouse, specific skills of the program operation is not required. If the tablet pen is used instead of the mouse, the analysis work becomes earlier.
