Recently, rules have been revised frequently in volleyball. Especially, the application of the rally point system changed the contents of the game greatly. Most research on volleyball was based on the side-out system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the score tendency in volleyball games. The game Samples of this study were composed of 152 sets (45 games) without the final sets in Women's World Cup 2003 volleyball games. The main results obtained were the followings:
1) In all the games, the score tendency was divided into five categories: 1-4, 5-8, 9-16. 17-21. and 23-25 points scored consecutively. The score category that occurred most frequently was the group 23-25, followed by the group 5-8 and the group 17-21. The group with the lowest rate of occurrence was the group 9.16, followed by the group 1-4 right after the sets started.
2) In the winning sets, the score tendency was divided into five categories: 1-3, 4-8, 9-15, 18-20. and 23-25 points scored consecutively. The score category that occurred most frequently was the group 23-25, followed by 18-20 and the group 1-3. The group with the lowest rate of occurrence was the group 9-15. followed by the group 1-3.
3) As for the lost sets, the score tendency was divided into six categories. But there was no outstanding ten dency in the score. The score category that occurred most frequently was the group 7-8, followed by 21-23 and the group 1-2. The group with the lowest rate of occurrence was the group 24-25, followed by the group 12-13 and the group 3-6.
