This study investigated the association between occlusal force and labial force in healthy young adults. Subjects were 71 adults (34 men, 37 women).

The measurement items were occlusal force, labial force and grip strength.

As the results, the occlusal force of the men and women were 699.4±165.7 N and 465.9±150.9 N, respectively. The labial force of the men and women were 6.6±1.5 N and 4.4±1.3 N, respectively. The grip strength of the men and women were 46.9±5.9 Kg and 29.2±4.8 Kg, respectively. The men showed significantly higher values for the occlusal force, labial force and grip strength than women. As for the occlusal force and the coefficient of correlation with the grip strength, the men were 0.37 (P<0.05) and female 0.44 (P<0.01), respectively. But, other items showed no positive association between occlusal force and labial force.

As mentioned above, these results suggest that it is necessary to measure occlusal force and labial force to individual.
