It is shown that the nematic liquid crystal is useful for realizing the input pattern display in recording holograms.
Three diffetent types of liquid crystal cells are available: (1) The transparent type with the transparent Nesa electrodes, (2) the reflective type with tlle transparent Nesa electrode and the reflective Al electrode, (3) the photoactive type with the photoconductive ZnS layer on one of the Nesa electrode in (1).
Fourier transform holograms are the most advantageous in the case of utilizing the light scattering phenomena caused by dynamic scattering mode. Especially tlle liquid crystal cell with the photoconductive layer can be effectively used as the incoherent-coherent image converter for holograrn recording.
