Two types of stabilization of a 633nm He-Ne laser, which is mode degenerated to single axial mode by transverse magnetic field, are compared. The first utilizes the state of polarization of the light for the stabilization and the second utilizes, the frequency of the optical beat formed by the two orthogonally polarized components of the light.
It was proved that a Japanese commercial internal mirror laser can be stabilized by the polarization signal near its line center. A same type of laser filled with single isotope
20Ne was stabilized more successfully by the intramode beat frequency. The Allan variance of the fluctuation of the optical frequency of the latter was estimated from the intramode beat frequency to be 1.52×10
-10 at integration time of 50 seconds.
