A new counting method associated with wavelength measurement of an infrared laser utilizing a tuning curve is given, being applied to a CO
2 laser line. The laser mirror displacement up to about 10cm, which produces about 2×10
4 peaks of the tuning curve, is measured by using a Michelson interferometer with a 633nm He-Ne laser as a light source.
The output data of both the CO
2 laser and the interferometer stored in magnetic tape through an A-D convertor are analyzed to compute the wavelength off-line operation with a computer. The wavelength has been preliminarily obtained to one part in 10
5.
