In the projection-type, unidirectional holography, the width of the viewing zone is limited by the width of the recording material. In this paper, an economical method of recording a wide-viewing-zone 3-D holographic image is proposed. In the proposed method, many mirrors are used to collect the image information onto a small photographic plate. In the reconstruction, the real image of the object is projected onto a horizontally directionselective stereoscreen through same mirrors, and observed from the mirror side. The experiments were performed using two optical systems having 9 and 19 mirrors, respectively, both arranged within a viewing zone of approximately 50cm. Satisfactory 3-D images have been obtained from rather small holograms. The optimum design and the information reduction techniques are also discussed.
