Through the sporeling of Theriotia lorifolia, the development of the protonema and the formation of the leafy shoot were observed. The protonemata of this species consist of three elements: the chloronema, the terminal rhizoids and the funnel-shaped protonema. No caulonema is recognized in protonemal system of this species. The sporeling type of this species belongs to the Diphyscium type. As to the formation of the leafy shoot, two cases are distinguished: (1) growth from a cell of basal part of the funnel-shaped protonema; (2) growth from a cell of surface of the upper part of funnel-shaped protonema.
I have examined the holotype specimen of Thuidium tibetanum from Tibet, China. The characters of stem- and branch-leaves, and of leaf-cells agree well with those of Diaphanodon blandus. I consider that T. tibetanum and D. blandus are conspecific.
