Hokuriku area is a forward area of structural reforms of rice paddy agriculture, and large-scale tenant farming of farmland accumulation beyond a rural community is developing actively as the leading type of farming there. One example is the object of this study, the Niigata Prefecture Joetsu City Sanwa Area. The Sanwa Area is large division rice field region. There, first I gathered data on accumulation of farmland, and the fact of farmland accumulation beyond a rural community in large-scale tenant farming emerged. In addition to this, the reality of regional agriculture resource management in large-scale tenant farming was also indicated. Second, a structure inside the rural community where all farmlands were accumulated by a large-scale tenant farming group of cultivation by outsiders was indicated. At the same time, it was in a state which allowed a free farmland use adjustment by the large-scale tenant farming group there.

The weakly separable preferences are verified under aggregation using representative price indexes. For processed food and beverages, the generalized axiom of revealed preference (GARP) is tested using large-scale product-level point-of-sale data. If GARP is not satisfied, the Afriat efficiency index (AEI) is introduced to assess the degree of optimization error. We find that the larger the number of observations in the time series direction, the less likely GARP is to be satisfied. However, the AEI is high, indicating that the degree of the optimization error is small.

The objective of this study is to clarify the consumer evaluation of attributes of apples including the inner quality that can guarantee sugar content and watercore rating by non-destructive analysis using an optical sensor. We conducted a counting analysis based on Best-Worst Scaling to calculate BW scores, and the conditional logit model to clarify the relative evaluation between attributes. The following are the main findings of this study. We found that the consumer evaluation of apple attributes is different for each attribute by age, and experience of harvesting apples enhances evaluation of sugar content and watercore.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the optimum mechanical equipment according to the business scale of forage production contractors. In the analysis, we assumed two large-sized and one small-sized harvesting work systems for management-independent contractors deployed in the flat areas of prefectures of Japan. The combination with the lowest cost per 10a was analyzed depending on the harvested area of corn WCS and rice WCS. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to quantitatively show the branch points and combinations regarding how to select the machine according to the harvest scale.

The purpose of this study is to identify the functions of the management philosophy and the objects of penetration that are important to the management of agricultural corporations. An interview survey was conducted with six managers of agricultural corporations. The results suggest that they place more importance on building trusting relationships with stakeholders outside the organization, depending on the location of the business location, and on building a sense of unity and motivation within the organization and motivating employees, rather than on creating a positive image outside the organization, depending on the relationship with customers. In addition, the results of comparative verification with previous studies showed that the functions emphasized by different types of farming are environmental adaptation for rice and vegetables, legitimate functions for fruit trees, and adult integration and motivation for livestock farming.

The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility that severely disabled people can work from home in the agriculture sector as Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS). Utilization of data is required for farm management by developing and introducing smart agricultural technology. However, there is a shortage of human resources with data utilization skills. If a severely disabled person with knowledge and experience can work utilizing agricultural data by working at home as a new form of worker, it will not only solve the shortage of human resources in agriculture but also secure a place for employment of disabled persons.

This study examines the case of Hamamatsu City to explain the farming by firms using abandoned cultivated lands after the introduction of budgetary measures for its revitalization and utilization in FY2009. The results of the study highlight that the budgetary measures helped increase the number of firms using abandoned cultivated lands in the first half of the decade from 2010. In the latter half of the same decade, the use of abandoned cultivated lands decreased.

This paper is to clarify factors of irrational acts and trust in farmland transactions by using the Identity Economics and trust analysis concept. To conclude, firstly lenders and the borrower’s irrational act decisions are affected by their identity. Secondly, the capability of the borrower’s farmland management skills and evaluating the individuality of the borrower by lenders are considered as trust factors. Furthermore, research results show that the identity and trust are related to each other to encourage land transactions.

This study analyzed the promotion of horticulture through shipments to farmers’ market in a rice-growing region, taking the case in Niigata Prefecture. We conducted sales data analysis, questionnaire surveys, and interview surveys to clarify the characteristics of shippers and the expansion route of horticultural work. As a result, we found that the horticultural expansion by multi-item cultivation was also observed in the rice cultivation area, while the specific gravity of rice cultivation affected sales behavior. It was also found that farmers’ markets contribute to the promotion of horticulture in the rice cultivation area.

This study clarifies the issues and countermeasures for utilization of game meat by investigating two advanced cases, focusing on the internalization of uncertainty in the capture, transport, and processing stages. The main results are as follows. First, in the capture stage, the uncertainty is internalized in both advanced cases by freezing game meat or teaching the techniques to hunters. Second, in the transport stage, this is done using light vehicles for refrigeration. Third, in the processing stage, this is done by improving hygiene management in divided workspaces.

In agriculture and rural areas, cooperative works are indispensable and new organizations doing the works are being established. But their accounting is unclear and prone to problems. It’s because there are no established accounting systems and few accounting staff in rural areas. So human resource development is necessary. From these reasons, this study is considering the accounting systems of the community cooperative work organizations and clarifying their characteristics. As a result, we found that all members joined the meetings and established their own accounting systems. There are three effects due to these systems: 1) securing accounting transparency, 2) promoting members’ understanding of the organization, and 3) promoting participation in village activities.

This study examines the motivation to learn folktales and pursue activities related to such folktales in regional cultural succession using an interview survey. The motivation for learning folktales is indicated by factors such as “folktales are highly valued by an audience,” the “opportunity to tell to an audience of all ages,” and the “existence of storytellers with high skills”; that for activities related to folktales’ succession is indicated by factors including “folktales are highly valued by an audience,” folktales are “evaluated as highly unique by local residents,” and “members’ friendliness.”

This paper aims to study conditions of the early stage of collective action in the Val Llech project inspired by Biovallée de la Drôme, a territorial approach to ecological transitions. From interviews with key actors regarding their motivations and participation in the project, we examined which parts of their perception of the issues to be addressed in the associations are categorized into convergence, divergence, and contradictions. We subsequently identified how convergence has underpinned Val Llech’s early collective action. We further examined the group’s strengths and issues to be solved for the stabilization and future development of collective action.

The objective of this study is to explore the ways for eradicating poverty and achieving decent lifestyles for people in Myanmar, one of the South East Asian countries, especially from the energy poverty point of view. Here, Myanmar was chosen as a target area, as the country has been in the beginning stage of “take-off”. We carried out two sorts of surveys, the 30-households-in-depth-interview, and the nationally representative 1,000 sample survey by the standard nation-wide random sampling procedure. We found that most households got through the energy poverty situation in the urban areas, but still people are experiencing the energy poverty situation in rural areas. But we observed that solar panels have provided a different situation in the rural areas; solar panels made it possible for rural households to use electric lighting, smartphones, and several small home-appliances.

This study shows the characteristics of the three methods of collecting a wheat breeding fund discussed in Canada. By the first method, the fund will be collected when farmers use farm-seeded seeds. By the second method, the fund will be collected when farmers sell their product. The last is the increase of the check-off levy which has already been introduced in Canada. The first two methods can be introduced to Japan by using the present seed or wheat dealing processes. The last method, the check-off levy, has not been introduced in Japan. If it is applied to Japan, an organization distributing it from farmers to breeders should be established carefully because of its important role in evaluating and encouraging breeding.
