Due to the aging society, accidental death due to sudden temperature change while taking a bath in winter has become a social problem. In this study, subject experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of behavior before moving from a warm temperature room to a cold temperature room on blood pressure. It was found that intake of warm barley tea before moving between rooms may suppress blood pressure fluctuations.

Reviewed equations for horizontal resistant force of Japanese wooden houses are discussed in considering both the acceleration response spectrum with keen peaks and the acceleration response spectrums of observed earthquake motion. The new horizontal resistant force is defined as the product of the coefficient of eccentricity ratio, the coefficient of a damping factor, and the coefficient of horizontal resistant force. This coefficient of horizontal resistant force is the function of the ductility factor, the natural period, the period of a response spectrum peak and its acceleration. As a result, the response analysis shows that the proposed equations give the safe side of the horizontal resistant force.

There are many observed strong motions over the assumption of Japanese codes. The proper base shear coefficient on these strong motions is required for high specification houses. In this paper, the relation between SA-SD curves of these strong motions and the response of time history analysis is discussed. As a result, it is hard to resist recently strong motions for the house whose base shear coefficient is 0.6. The requires that the base shear coefficient required by the strongest motion is over 1.0.

Nowadays, many damping devices for Japanese wooden houses are developed. Nevertheless, an easy structural design method for Japanese wooden houses with dampers is not confirmed. In this report, the conversion method of damping capacity to the wall length of resistant walls is proposed. This conversion method is in consideration of both the absorbed energy in a cycle and the resistant force at the maximum displacement in a cycle. In addition, this method is checked with response analysis on both artificial earthquake motions and observed earthquake motions. As a result, the conversion wall length of viscous damper is on the safe side. The conversion wall length of hysteresis damper and dampers with a relief valve is in use if the maximum displacement increases by 20% compared to the maximum displacement without dampers in some case.

The purpose of this paper is to research the students’ self-assessment on their English skills in the class where more interactions are required and to see the difference between face to face class and online class. Research question 1: Is it possible to have enough interactions in online class? Research question2: Does online class make a difference in students’ self-assessment on their English skills? This paper indicates that the way of providing the lessons does not make differences but the contents of the class do.

At the remote teaching in our college, the author lectured presenting static images slide to the students. Compared to teaching while writing description on blackboards, teaching while presenting description with slides may have considerable advantages, although it has some disadvantages. So, the author would like to incorporate the explanation using sildes into teaching. For this purpose, the author carried out a questionnaire to the students, and considered the effect of teaching while presenting description with slides.

In this paper, 244 phrasal verbs consisting of “verb of French origin + preposition” are presented. Furthermore, the first appearances of 88 phrasal verbs consisting of “monosyllabic verb of French origin + preposition” are manually extracted from the Oxford English Dictionary 2nd edition, and the extracted first appearances are provided as basic data for phrasal verb research consisting of “verb of French origin + preposition.” The results of the study indicate that phrasal verbs (monosyllabic verb of French origin + preposition) have been mass-produced after modern English (from 1500).

The purpose of this study is to investigate the physical fitness of new students of National Institute of Technology Toyota College. The subjects were more than one thousand new students from the 2010 to 2019 academic year. The physical fitness at new students was observed to be dependent on the year they entered the college. From a comparison with the national averages of the same ages, the abilities of muscle strength, sprinting, jumping and throwing showed to be inferior in the present subjects. On the other hand, the abilities of muscular endurance, flexibility, agility and general endurance showed to be superior in the present subjects.

This paper investigates what with constructions in Early Modern English by employing EEBO, which is a database collecting texts in the period. The investigation reveals that gerunds, especially verbal gerunds without lexical subjects, were selected as complements by what with as early as Early Modern English. It is argued that they began to be attested in its complement due to analogy with with PRO -ing, which was adjoined to main clauses in the same way as what with constructions.
