In this paper, three mechanical yarn cleaners and six electrical yarn cleaners are compared experimentally. The yarn used in this experiment are pure cotton yarns, and polyester/cotton blended yarns in which various kinds of faults are artificially inserted at regular intervals.
Investigated items of these cleaners performance are catching and improper cutting rate of various kinds of faults, yarn damage and easiness of handling.
The main results are as follows :
(1) The mechanical yarn cleaners are generally low in catching rate of neps and thick yarns, and yarns are considerably damaged. But they are easy in handle and cheap in price.
(2) In general, the electrical yarn cleaners are better than the mechanical but not enough in catching rate of neps.
(3) Advantages and disadvantages of each type of cleaners become clear.
